Happy 5th Birthday, James Johnson!
Happy 8th Anniversary, Malcolm and Nadine Sinclair!
We were a bit far away today to help with those Johnson clan celebrations, but then we wouldn’t have done anything if we’d been home either – other than the family gifts that had already been sent to them anyway.
Here in the Capital, we ended up with better weather with just a dash or three of rain, but we were booked for the political tours at the White House and Capitol Hill anyway – though we did get to have some outdoor time between tours and the luncheon with one of the congresswomen. For the record, Ehlana and I kept our mouths shut and didn’t get into any trouble today! We did enjoy the tours and it is amazing to see everything in-person, but a lot of the nonsense that we were exposed to certainly didn’t change our opinions on politics or politicians.
Before we move on to the rest of our story, the top news floating around the Capital today included a ceasefire agreement with the Houthis in Yemen, but there aren’t many details; and we will wait and see whether both sides actually do whatever they’ve agreed to do for the ceasefire. Here at home, our leaders have apparently agreed to change or end certain automotive electric vehicle targets from the previous administration, and while we knew the goals weren’t attainable; that really just makes the whole thing more theatre when nothing is actually changing either way! It does distract from more war – like the news that there is more fighting on both sides in Ukraine and a smaller story about approvals for more weapons and upgraded defense systems for both Ukraine and Israel. All of this really just adds up to no changes at all and the war machine and industrial complex rolls on and continues to make trillions!
Getting back to our story, we were on the go all day; did not meet the President; and we can honestly report that our favorite parts of our day were the dinner we went out for after our tours and the shopping that followed this evening. We went for another swim after getting back to our hotel; and now we’re wrapping up with the computer checks and chat time. I need to mention that I have been doing regular messaging and daily vid-chats with Naomi, and I only mention that because Ehlana pointed out that I haven’t done that yet while writing about Sophia’s calls with Aaron. We’re all sending lots of pictures and some videos, but Naomi and Aaron were only here last year; so it isn’t a big deal. Sophia and I are going to leave Ehlana and Aiden alone for a while soon, though, and they are now inviting me to wrap this up so they can be alone sooner and for a bit more time; so I guess that’s all for tonight. Stay tuned – tomorrow will be interesting as we get started on our outdoor adventures with the trip to Arlington and the monuments tour.
