Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - May 26, 2025

Ethan and Ehlana:

As always, it doesn’t feel right to put ‘happy’ together with Memorial Day – even when our own traditions include both a solemn ceremony and a picnic celebration.  Let’s just go with hoping that everyone has had a good day.

Our morning started better than we expected.  The rain was delayed, so we were able to have Tai Chi by the river, and then after a quick breakfast; Ehlana and I met up with our friends and the rest of the band for the parade in the staging area that now goes from the falls and across Witch Falls Road onto Ridge Road.  We had some rain sprinkles during the parade, so that seemed appropriate to the procession and ceremony at the cemetery.  A band of rain rolled through as the ceremony wrapped up, so we didn’t do any family walks and story time there.  We went home; packed up our contributions for the picnic; and headed for the school where we held the picnic while we continued to have bands of rain hit with breaks every hour or so.

We still had fun with the alternate plans, but with more rain expected through the rest of the day; our weekend guests opted to basically eat and run with just a bit of play time too before they packed up at houses or cottages and then hit the road for their own homes.  Ehlana and I said our goodbyes at the school because we stayed and volunteered for the clean-up.  The picnic ended early too because of the weather, but we didn’t head home until nearly six o’clock by the time the work was done.  We came home on our own while our friends headed for their homes; we had a snack dinner with Mom and Dad; and then we all worked in the office for a couple of hours while multi-tasking some chores including laundry and some cleaning.  Bath or Jacuzzi time was ordered at nine-thirty, and even with some time phasing; we didn’t get all of the work done.  We are getting tired, though, so let’s wrap this up.  The top news of the day is that our world leaders proved they got dumber today when Germany authorized Ukraine to use their Taurus long-range missiles on targets within Russia.  That is a definite escalation – especially when Ukraine can’t actually fire those missiles – they require German military to target and launch them.  That’s essentially an act of war by Germany on Russia; so this could go very badly – as it did the last two times that Germany brought war to Russia.  This really does seem insane to us – especially when a counter-attack against Germany could be used as grounds to pull NATO into the conflict – though that would just be officially; since NATO has definitely been supporting Ukraine in their attempts to destroy Russia.  That hasn’t worked in three years and three months of fighting, but here we have yet another ‘wonder weapon’ that is supposed to change the balance of power that didn’t change with any of the other wonder weapons.  So much for the peace talks!  This is why we’re going to ignore all of the talk going on among all of the politicians; since the words are continuing to be theatre while nothing changes.

That does bring us to our national politics and the story about the ‘big, beautiful bill’ that is another example of talk turning out to be total lies.  We now know that all of the talk about cutting waste and making government smaller is total bull; and that new bill will add trillions in new debt with the new ‘official’ estimate being another twenty-five trillion over the next ten years!  For reference, the national debt ten years ago was around eighteen trillion dollars – so about half of what it is now.  It more than doubled the ten years before that; so we can expect that trend to continue unless our leaders actually get serious about fixing the fiscal disaster they’ve created.  Our point here, though, is that nothing important is changing from the previous administration and we continue down the wrong paths for nearly everything that really is most-important for the world!  That’s a depressing thought, but we’ll stop now instead of ranting on.  We’re back to school tomorrow and will be prepping for final exams.  We have more going on beyond that – including baseball.  I know, this is shocking coming near the end of May, but we were planning on skipping this season, but got drafted this weekend due to player shortages and couldn’t turn those requests down.  We’ll be joining teams starting tomorrow evening; and shouldn’t have any trouble getting ready to play in the first games of the season.  We’ll keep you posted on that news as we go along, but that’s all for this update and we’re out of here and off to dreamland soon.

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!
