Ehlana's and Ethan's Journals - November 30, 2024

Ehlana and Ethan:

We’re going to make this a placeholder update because we’re busy; and are only taking a quick break before getting back to the fun – which for this afternoon includes a family-and-friends trip to the Christmas tree farm!  We’ve had some snow this morning; so it is going to be very Christmassy for that adventure – though we’ve had a bit of extra work too with minor snow clean-up and scraping and brushing off vehicles along with the rest of the chores we’ve been doing this morning.

All other details can wait – including for the rest of our story from yesterday; so that’s it for now and we’re out of here and back to our holiday weekend and last day of November adventures!

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!

Ehlana's and Ethan's Journals - November 29, 2024

Ehlana and Ethan:

Happy 24th Birthday, Rowen!

This Black Friday is also the anniversary for her birthday boyfriend gift from Tim, so we’ve had some fun with that; though she’s also been stuck working at the store for the big sale day too.  That won’t keep Cassie from helping her best friend to have an awesome day, but that story will need to wait for tomorrow; since her party hasn’t happened yet!

We need to start our report from the last update; so let’s do that now.  We had a busy Thanksgiving day morning with the work we had around the big dinner and kid control duties as our cousins and some friends arrived, but we also watched some of the annual parade in New York and had some play time with the other kids and teens too.

As usual, our afternoon and evening entertainment highlights included watching football games in the living room or chick flicks in the sunroom or video gaming in the lounge – along with added indoor or outdoor play and games, but the big dinner was also a main event – though we needed to split up among the dining room, kitchen, and sunroom to have room for everyone.  Most of the teens and kids were in the sunroom or kitchen; we had a blast and ate too much; and let’s not really comment on the major clean-up that followed.  Ethan got stuck with watching more football than I did, but then none of the outcomes of those battles were seriously in doubt despite some scoreboard comebacks; and each game started with one team dominating and then coasting to the wins through the third or fourth quarters.  Our guests either stayed most of the day and fairly-late into the evening or made cameo visits; so it was busy around the house all day.  Since the video gaming marathon was already at our house, Ethan eventually hosted the boys for the night – and didn’t get much sleep – while Brianna hosted a girls’ sleepover that Naomi and I were at with the gang of mostly-younger girls.  We went home with Brianna by around ten-thirty with some Mom support; and then the rest of our evening included lots of girl chat, a movie, and a much-earlier bedtime than the boys had.

Some of us were still up early for Tai Chi, but then our adventures for the day really kicked up when we got ready for the big shopping day and then headed to the Inn for the breakfast buffet that most of the members of our collective families attended sooner or later.  That was later for some of our favorite boys – including Ethan and Aiden, but we didn’t really mind; and that allowed us to have fun with some shopping that the boys wouldn’t have been with us for anyway!  You don’t really want the shop-by-shop details; so I’ll only add that we loved all of the shopping and time with favorite people; and then we headed home again for the rest of the day – at least for most of us.

We should add that Uncle Nick, Aunt Deborah, and their kids headed out today to spend the rest of the weekend with her family and an ‘in-law’ holiday with her mother’s family.  Yes, we mentioned that being the case this year for the Johnson-McEwan clan, but in this case; Aunt Deborah’s family is juggling sibling in-laws too; and that’s why they could be here with us yesterday.  Let’s not dwell on the inevitability of that change coming for us as the next-gen families grow.  Here at home, it has stayed cold again today, but we still had a bit of fresh air time – or more of it for any boys that braved football scrimmages at the park.  There has also been college football game watching here; more gaming in the lounge; and continuing movies and board games in the sunroom.  Lunch was a buffet snack break; and we’ll be split up among quite a few homes for the dinners we’ll be having soon – which for us will include leftovers and pre-cooked options including lasagna and casseroles.  Ethan and I will be hosting some teens for the night; our cousins and some of their friends will be elsewhere at their own homes or other places; and the parents and grandparents will be getting around and visiting too.

It is a bit quieter here as we’re writing this and getting ready for the rest of our day, but that is relative; and this little break for Ethan and I is really just a cameo blip that we need to wrap up and move on from now.  We’re having an amazing holiday so far and expect that to continue; so stay tuned for the next round of stories while we get back to having fun with our family and friends!

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!

Ehlana's and Ethan's Journals - November 28, 2024

Ehlana and Ethan:

We’ve decided to go with a morning update because this is going to be a very busy Thanksgiving; and we might not get time to do this later tonight.  All of our weekend guests – except Dawn – are here now; and we had a fun, busy night while welcoming everyone; entertaining ourselves, and with the work and kid control we helped out with along with all of the fun.  Along with welcoming the grandparents to our house, we spent time with our friends and groups of family at multiple homes and cottages.  While Naomi and Aiden spent quite a bit of time with us; they didn’t stay for a sleepover last night; and none of our visiting cousins did because they were staying elsewhere.  Jayden spent some time with us too, but he opted for a night with the Everetts, but we were all still up fairly-late with those groups of family hanging out together.  For Ethan and I, that also included some time with Naomi and her family; and they’ll be with us today; since we’ll have some of the Ayres’ clan with us for dinner and at least some of the adventures we’ll be hosting for the rest of the day.  We got to bed at sometime after midnight; and we were okay with the chance for some quiet time ahead of the four days we’re really just getting started on now.

Tai Chi was indoors and it is cold out this morning; and the high is only going to touch freezing.  There will likely be some outdoor time for the kids and teens, but we expect to be indoors for most of the day.  We’ve already helped Mom and Dad with getting the turkey cooking; other dinner prep work is done; and we’ve helped with making breakfast too.  We’re currently taking our turns with getting ready for the day and we need to get to that breakfast soon; so that’s all we have for today.  Stay tuned for those stories; and we’re out of here and back to the fun!

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!

Ehlana's and Ethan's Journals - November 27, 2024

Ehlana and Ethan:

Most of our weekend guests are still on the way here – or really just getting started, but the ‘Arizona’ grandparents are here; and our family architects are here too for some business meetings ahead of the holiday break.  Our academic adventures were barely that at all; and we mostly played and had fun except for a bit of clean-up and project wrap-ups to get ready for the Christmas season studies.  We were set free a bit early too; and now we’re ready to get started on our long weekend adventures.

For the record, this is a ‘home’ weekend for our family and an away weekend for the Johnson clan – which is why Josiah, Christina, and their kids will be with her family this weekend.  That always feels weird to us, but that’s mostly because Uncle Adam and his family isn’t included for obvious reasons – especially when we’re also talking about all of his Johnson and McEwan relatives sharing different holidays with their respective in-law families.  Let’s also add that Naomi’s York relatives will be here for the weekend and will spend lots of time with us through their connections to the Ayres; and we’ll need to make sure that Gerald and Yvonne have fun while here too.  We also want to mention that this Thanksgiving will be a bit different thanks to also having cottages to use for weekend guests, and finally, Dawn has to work and fly until Friday, so she’ll miss the big dinner, but will be here for a few days starting on late Friday night or Saturday morning depending on any travel delays that are normal for the holiday – even for the pilots that don’t deal with passenger flights.

The rest of our news can wait for future updates.  Ethan and I are ready to meet up with our friends and get started on the fun now – and the work we’re sure to be drafted to help with too, so while we do that; stay tuned for those reports and have an awesome day whenever your ‘now’ is in our future!

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!

Ehlana's and Ethan's Journals - November 26, 2024

Ehlana and Ethan:

Our academic adventures are winding down into the holiday weekend, and while we had a test today; we mostly worked on wrapping up modules to get ready for the next batch we’ll be working through until the Christmas break.  That isn’t needed for every subject – though even when it comes to subjects like math and science; we still have holiday themes to go along with the ‘technical’ studies.  Band practice kept us busy after school for an hour and change; we brought our four best friends home to get our homework out of the way by dinnertime; and then we were on our own with Mom and Dad for that meal and an evening that has mostly been about final prep work and chores to get ready for the holiday weekend and the guests that we’ll be hosting for the next four nights.  All guest bedrooms are ready; ditto that for the bathrooms and our lounge and the rest of the house; and we multi-tasked our Magi lessons with getting the work done while not staying up half the night to do that.

Since coming upstairs to get ready for bed, Ethan and I have been busy with the usual bedtime computing and twin chat fun; and now we’re pretty much ready to re-charge and be at full-power for our final school day of the week that will include a Thanksgiving Pizzeria pizza lunch and a lot of fun as our weekend guests arrive.  I shouldn’t skip another day without a world news report, since we might not keep up with that as much over the next few days; so let’s at least do a minor update on those top world news stories.  In a nutshell – all is still terrible; and we keep hoping that our leaders won’t start a world war before President-elect Trump takes office; since there are war hawks apparently trying to make that happen; and don’t care about the potential costs on any level.  We’re regularly told that our country is destined to be the police force for good in the world, but from our perspective, if that is true; then we should alert internal affairs and have the police leadership collectively arrested; since they appear to be committing more crimes than they are stopping! ;^)

That’s enough for tonight.  Stay tuned; since we really hope that this will be yet another best-ever-so-far holiday!

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!
