Ehlana's and Ethan's Journals - July 21, 2020

Ehlana and Ethan:

Happy 8th Anniversary, Uncle Nick and Aunt Deborah!

We’ve had another rain day here, but the weather cleared up in time for an outdoor anniversary dinner that Naomi’s parents hosted for her – our – aunt and uncle.  Okay, we’re not technically related, but Zack and Brianna are; so we’re all lumped together – if only by second-level marriage connections.

While it rained this morning and then dried up into the afternoon; we spent all of that time at the lab or archives.  The work there wrapped up early because most of us were attending that anniversary dinner party; so we went out for a bike ride and swim with Naomi and Aiden after leaving the lab; and then we were on kid control for the younger cousins from the pre-dinner start through until Uncle Nick and Aunt Deborah were sent off to enjoy the rest of their night without their kids.  Naomi has Leah with her tonight – along with Hailey for a best-friend bonus; Sebastian is with Zack tonight; and they’ve got Eli and Caleb with them.  That might have been bad for Brianna, but Faith saved her with a sleepover invitation.  We’re not in on that because Mom wanted to do a Magi lesson with us; and we wanted to do some studying.  Mom is also going to be in Crystal Springs tomorrow night; we’ll be at Naomi’s; and didn’t want to give her parents too-much to deal with for two days in a row.

That dinner party was fun, but the details are available elsewhere; and it wasn’t really a major event for the kids while the parents had a lot of fun with roasting the happy couple.  We also do not want to write about anything adult-rated that might be going on tonight – or anything we overheard while at the Seager’s; so we just won’t go there.

Before we wrap this up; we should do another pandemic update; since this has been another milestone day.  We’ve topped fifteen million confirmed cases worldwide today – and passed four million in our country.  That’s an increase of more than a million and a half cases in a week; and we’ve been above two-hundred-thousand cases a day for a week now too.  We have enough information now to know for sure that those numbers are seriously under-reported in a lot of countries, but then we knew from the start that the true scope of this pandemic wouldn’t likely be known for years; since governments in most countries have too-many incentives to hide what is really happening when it comes to bad things that can make them look bad when the truth is known.  Statistics and math will eventually win-out, though; and the lies can’t be hidden forever.

We’re not going to get into any rants about that sort of thing tonight, and there are differences in how each country is dealing with the pandemic and caring for their people, but we also need to mention that there really are too-many places where the welfare of most people is not a priority for their leaders.  Hiding that reality by using a don’t-test, don’t-tell policy won’t fix the problems; and will certainly make things worse for everyone.

Okay, that’s enough for tonight.  We have had a good day; loved the bonus, weekday party opportunity; and will continue to have fun over the next couple of days – even if we don’t get to go along on that little adventure.  Those stories will need to wait for the next updates; since we need to get some sleep – and then go out and live those adventures before we can write about them.

Well, we might actually be able to do that ahead of time, but aren’t allowed to use our Sight for that sort of thing – not to mention that our lives would get very complicated when we’d also be tempted to try and change everything that we didn’t like that we might see happening to us.  Fortunately, we’re too-tired to have fun with that kind of mind-bending; so that’s it; and we’re out of here!
