Ethan:
It was great to start our day with
beautiful weather – especially for Tai Chi by the river, but I also can’t help
but wonder if Mother Nature is just as happy as the rest of the parents in town
to get the break from their kids for up to five days a week between now and
next June! ;^)
Mom and Dad had a pancake breakfast for us
this morning; so they were celebrating; and we had a vid-chat with Cassie and
Michael too that kept us entertained for about half of our meal time. Dad went to work after that, but Mom walked
to school with us – just for the first day; and we had quite a few other
parents with us for that walk as we met up with Zack, Sebastian, Naomi, Aiden,
and their siblings and Moms.
I’ll take a moment here to report that
Naomi looked amazing in the dress she picked out for today; her Mom probably
spent a lot of time doing her hair; and I got razzed a lot today for my
reaction to seeing her this morning and the hug and kiss that I apparently
earned for that appreciation. Ehlana
looked beautiful too, and Aiden was equally-impressed, but Ehlana didn’t make a
big deal of that; and his reputation did not take a hit – this time.
As usual, the start to our first day of
school – for the younger kids – took a while as we were matched up with our
teachers; so we had a bit of extra time to chat with parents and friends while
we waited. For our family, adding Caleb
and Sebastian to the student ranks was probably the top news story for the parents,
but Ehlana, Aiden, and I are really happy to have Isabelle Jennings for our
teacher this year; and Naomi and her Grade Four classmates are just as excited
to have Amy Spencer this year. I’m not
going to make a big deal of that, since we’ve loved all of our teachers, but
this school year is already different for our class; and I’m totally basing
that on how some of the guys were acting today around Mrs. Jennings compared to
a year ago when we had Miles’ Mom for our teacher.
Miles and Joshua would never admit it, but
at least two of us could sense that they’re crushing on our new teacher!
We did eventually get to our classes; and
then our first day of the school year was easy as we mostly had a play day
mixed in with a look ahead to our schedule over the next month or two; some
review to get ready for our first lessons; and at least a small sample of the
classes we’ll be taking this year. That
included appearances from our other teachers for classes like Spanish,
Computers, and Phys-Ed; and there was bonus outdoor time too. Ehlana and I had extra fun at lunch and
recesses because we could spend that time with Naomi; she’s had a good first
day in Grade Four; and then we were able to hang out together after school too.
Our homework tonight was more along the
lines of making sure we have everything we need for tomorrow, so we didn’t have
anything extra to do; and could get right to the after-school fun. For Ehlana, Naomi, Aiden, and me; the fun
began with stops to visit parents at the bakery and salon to do the school
report with Aiden’s parents and Naomi’s Mom.
We had a snack and visit with Mom at home after that; and then we went
out to bike the trails with our friends until dinnertime. Ehlana and I were not allowed to play at the
lab and archives today, but we will add that back into our daily routine
tomorrow. The weather was great for
trail riding – and for a cool-down swim when we were ready for the break. The girls had fun with chatting about our
school day; teachers; and the latest fashion; while Miles and Joshua were
more-interested in annoying the girls or talking football.
We haven’t mentioned our school football
team yet, but their first game last Friday was on the road; they lost; and our
expectations for the season are once again pretty low. Miles thinks that he could help the team
right now, but will hopefully keep those claims to just among us; since he
probably wouldn’t want to try and back that up if the guys on the team this
year call him out on it.
Okay, he’d likely try anyway, but that’d
likely end about as badly as his last biking challenge with Cassie. Ehlana and I will be happy to help out if he
does get crushed and needs a bit of Magi-powered healing – again!
The play time was fun; and so was dinner
with Mom and Dad after we got home. Our
evening plans included resuming our doctoral studies for Ehlana and me; Mom did
a Magi lesson with us; and then we were sent upstairs for another round of
baths before bedtime – and another early night.
We don’t actually need to go to sleep early, but our studies and work
was done in a time phase; so we actually have extra hours put in already; and I’m
ready to get some sleep now. That’s all
of the news I have for today too; so I’ll just wrap this up and go do that.
Ethan – out!

Ehlana:
I love my Jacuzzi! ;^)
Ethan’s done a good job with this report;
so I’ll only add a few comments.
The girls in our class are amused by Miles,
Joshua, and some of the other guys with how they’re acting around Mrs. Jennings
– and there’s some of that going on in Naomi’s class for the boys that are
crushing on Mrs. Spencer. Some of the
girls are having a bit too much fun with that, but they shouldn’t do that,
since we will have men teaching our classes more-often in the coming years; and
Miles will look for payback in the future if he gets picked on or thinks that
he’s taking a hit to his reputation.
Ethan also skipped over the clothing changes that most of the girls in
our group of friends needed to do before that bike ride and swim, but that didn’t
take long for Naomi and me; and she just borrowed clothes from me too instead
of making another stop at her house. I
was glad to get back to our ‘real’ studies tonight; though I have done some
work this summer. I missed getting to be
at the lab, but couldn’t really get out of the first-day-of-school play time
with our friends – and we had fun doing that instead.
I guess that’s all I have; and there’s no
update for Cassie and Michael; since she’s still busy with her night class as I’m
writing this. It’s time for me to get
out of my Jacuzzi now and get ready for bed; so I’ll wrap this up and do that
next. It’s been a really good day, so I
won’t write about any of the downside parts of playing our roles of ‘normal’
Grade Three students; and enjoy all of the happy.
Our journals are one of the places we’re
supposed to deal with both the good and bad in our lives, but maybe I’ll try to
focus more on the good this year – especially when the bad just isn’t that big
of a deal compared to certain recent events – or most of the really bad that
goes on in the world outside of our little hometown haven!
That is all for tonight; so I’m out of here
and back to the real world.
This is Ehlana Proctor; coming to you live
from what is now my past!
