Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - November 4, 2022

Ethan, Ehlana, Naomi, and Aiden:

Happy 44th Birthday, Dad!

Surprise – we’re parent-free for a week! ;^)

Okay, that wasn’t a surprise for us, and wasn’t really one for Dad either, but we all pretended that it was this morning at the birthday breakfast we had at the Inn.  Mom, Dad, Aunt Leanne, and Uncle Adam are currently enjoying their first night in a tropical paradise; and we’re at Naomi’s house for the night – along with Aiden.  Ehlana is officially staying with Naomi this week and I’ll be with Aiden and his family, but we’ll also be doing sleepovers together – as usual.  Zack and Brianna will be staying with cousins and friends too, and tonight Zack and Eli are both with Caleb and the Everetts while Brianna and Faith were rescued by Leah and are staying with Uncle Nick and Aunt Deborah.

Moving along, that breakfast buffet at the Inn was a big event with lots of family and friends; our parents, aunt, and uncle hit the road for the airport while we went to school; and we are sure that they’ll be having more fun while away than we will here at home.  Yes, Naomi, I do think that’s true – and you know that it is; since we’d have more fun together too if we were on vacation somewhere warm and tropical too!  Co-ed sleepovers are still fun, and we’re very happy; so that works for us when we’re too-young for adult-rated fall vacations anyway!

We need to back up and cover Caroline’s birthday party news; so let’s do that; and then cover the rest of the story for today.

As we mentioned, Caroline went with a co-ed birthday party, and while we’ve done that for all of our parties; it is still new for most of our friends – and gets weird as we head into our tween years.  We all had a lot of fun at the party, but there were moments of drama too; and that got a bit weird – especially for those of us with hyper-active empathy.  Naomi wants me to report that I helped to keep that from being much worse by advising two of the guys on changing bad gift plans earlier this week and then also stepping in during the party to keep awkward moments from getting much-worse, and I did do that; but don’t really want to take any credit when we all wish that some of our friends actually seem to enjoy the little conflicts and dramas.

Caroline’s party included games with prizes, a ‘real’ dinner that was really great, and a movie that the couples enjoyed more than the singles.  Caroline only had Jennifer stay for the night, and since it was a school night; the rest of us headed for our homes by a bit after ten o’clock.  That worked for us, since we did have that early birthday breakfast at the Inn; and that’s also why the rest of our night only included a bedtime chat with Mom and Dad before we headed upstairs for the night.

As for today, after the birthday breakfast news, a big rain day has been the top story around here.  We’ve gotten a lot of rain, so we’ve been indoors for most of the day; and got wet whenever we were outside for walks between school and homes.  We were at home after school for a band practice and to take care of Silkie; we packed our overnight bags and headed for Naomi’s house in time to help out with making dinner; and Silkie is with us tonight too.  We loved having a quiet dinner with Naomi and her parents; the tweens in the house took care of the clean-up while Naomi’s Mom headed back to the salon; and our evening since then has included two movies and lots of co-ed cuddle time.  Naomi’s parents just went to bed; we’re settling in for the co-ed sofa sleepover part of our plans; and that’s pretty much all we have for this update.  Our weekend might not be vacation-fun, but we will try to have a blast anyway; so stay tuned and we’ll do our best to have some amazing adventures to write about while Mom and Dad are away and we – the kids – get to play! ;^)

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!
