Ethan and Ehlana:
Martin Luther King Day is a very different experience at our future college compared to home, and while we knew that from the stories from our favorite collegians; the experience is still very different. We didn’t really learn anything new about the history of the overall story, but the lecture we went to was interesting because it was presented by a man who had been a child growing up during the civil right movement and in relatively-close proximity to Martin Luther King and his family. Recalling a child’s perspective on those events – including the assassination and aftermath – might not seem all that important, but we can relate very well; since every kid in the world now has a similar perspective for the pandemic and how that has drastically affected our lives.
We only attended that one lecture; checked out the displays that were set up at one of the arenas and at the Commons. While we didn’t decide our lunch plans until the last minute, we ended up saying goodbye to Cassie, Michael, Rowen, Tim, and some other friends at a bit after noon and then hitting the road for home instead of having lunch with them. The extra time with Cassie and Michael would have been nice, but we collectively decided that getting home earlier was better – including because Dad could come all the way home and then head for Crystal Springs in the morning instead of going there tonight.
We picked up fast food to go on the way out of the city; and the drive home was fairly-quiet. The top chat topics included commentary on what we saw and heard at the college along with updates on the big snowstorm that is dumping a lot of snow throughout the northeast. We’re glad that we missed the worst of that storm while it is also a bit weird to think of that happening to the east of us while the weather here is above freezing and pretty good for mid-January. Winter will still be here for months, so we won’t offer added commentary that might jinx us for the rest of the season! ;^)
Our parents took turns driving and had us home in time to unload the van and truck and still have dinner at a decent time – which we did with Aiden’s parents too at our house for all of us. That was a last blast of fun for everyone; and then our best friends and their families went home; and we got to work on chores, laundry, and computing in the office. Mom helped us out with a time phase, so we haven’t needed to stay up all night; and now we’re all winding down toward nap time because we still need to get up early to see Dad off on his trip to the city. We’ve skipped over our early morning at the hotel and another Grill and Griddle breakfast with our big sister and her husband and best friends, but the Tai Chi and the rest of that was just a near-repeat of that part of Sunday morning. We’re also getting tired after adding in those time-phased hours of work; so we should just wrap this up and crash for the rest of the night.
Until next time, this little blast from your near or distant past is written for you with love from Ethan and Ehlana Proctor – twin junior Magi Masters of the Light!
