Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - December 31, 2021

Ethan and Ehlana:

Happy New Year’s Eve Day!

Our final journal update for 2021 is early and will be short because we’re going to be too-busy for the rest of the day.  That’s partly because we have bad weather in the forecast for tomorrow; so Mom and Dad have drafted us to help out with some prep work to get ready for that in addition to all of the family-and-friends’ fun we already have planned for the weekend.

That seems a bit weird in contrast to the sunny, mid-fifties warmth we’re getting for today; and we want to get the work done quickly so we’ll still have lots of time to play with our cousins and friends for the rest of the day – and before the bad weather arrives.

We’ll have all of that news for you sometime in the New Year, but we’re also ready to get started on the work now too; so, until next time – and next year...

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - December 30, 2021

Ethan and Ehlana:

Happy 4th Anniversary, Josiah and Christina!

Their special day has had a lot to do with why the Johnson clan is already here for the holiday weekend; and most of our weekend family guests traveled during the day and arrived this afternoon.  That – and the anniversary dinner at the Inn – also explains why we had a work and chores morning.  We helped Mom around the house; moved on to help Aunt Leanne with chores at her house while Mom helped with some ongoing cooking; and then we had lunch there too before going out to play for a while with our cousins and some friends.  Our afternoon play time was a mix of fun and semi-official kid-control work.  Naomi and Aiden helped us with that, and in addition to keeping younger cousins, siblings, and friends entertained; we added in most of the guest kids too as they arrived with their parents and grandparents.

That kept us busy through that dinner at the Inn, and we continued to help out with the kids at the Inn while the parents and adult cousins were busy with roasting the happy couple and hanging out with the kids their own ages.  We still had lots of help when needed with the youngest kids, but it is also becoming clear that we’re nearly at the next level in our own childhood – the babysitter level! ;^)

Jake and Stephanie made sure that the buffet dinner for two of their best friends was awesome with a couple of great special dishes to go along with the rest of the amazing food; so that meal was definitely a highlight of our day.  We had to share our favorite collegians a lot today, but the time we did get to spend with them was really good too; and we loved getting to catch up with May – and Lee; since we haven’t seen them very much now that we have to share May with Lee and his family.

We should take a moment to write about May since we haven’t done that very often in quite a while.  She is really happy, and doing really well with both her education and her job through the family business.  She misses her family, but the potential risks that go along with a trip home – especially when it comes to getting back here to continue her education – continues to keep her from going back to China.  That will likely continue to be true this summer, so if she can’t go home; we’ll be happy to have her spend extra time with us!

While we’re thinking about travel – or lack of it; we should also take a moment to mention the current surge in Covid cases both here in our country and around the world.  New daily and weekly records are being hit with this latest wave, but that’s with new cases while the Omicron variant is – so far – proving to be milder with fewer serious illnesses and fatalities.  We haven’t mentioned any of the new restrictions that are being imposed by too-many governments around the world, but that isn’t happening here; and our only problem is actually getting a bit of notice for not having any confirmed cases.  Our Magi-powered ‘vaccine’ continues to protect everyone we’ve treated, and while Uncle Adam and Uncle Mark offer ‘boosters’ to anyone asking for one; they’re only placebos; and not needed.  We also understand that a more-transmissible and less-lethal variant is actually a good thing; since that will begin to strengthen and develop immunity protection against Covid as we collectively transition from the original pandemic to dealing with a disease that will evolve and be with us just as we’ve always dealt with viruses like colds and flu.  At the rate Omicron is spreading; it may take longer for a lot of people to change perceptions about Covid and how to deal with it than it will take for everyone to catch it at least once!

Moving along, the dinner at the Inn lasted until a bit after eight o’clock; we came home with Mom and Dad after that while Cassie, Michael, May, and Lee moved on to other adventures for the rest of the evening; and we’ve had a quiet night since then.  That’s also pretty much all we have for this update, and we want to get some extra sleep ahead of the holiday weekend; so, until next time...

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - December 29, 2021

Ethan and Ehlana:

The top news for today is that some of our favorite people have been traveling, and since it has been cold all day but still with decent weather; they didn’t miss much.  We’re happy to have May and Lee here with us tonight; and they’ll be with Cassie and Michael through until they head back to school.  Cassie and Michael went to get them – meeting them half-way while Lee’s family took care of the other half of the drive from St. Louis.  The other top travel story for the family is Jaimie and Kaitlyn’s trip home.  The real news there is that Micah and Jeremy are spending the rest of the week with them and headed out today too.  Micah needed to drive as well so that they can drive themselves home on Sunday; and all four teens were very excited about spending New Year’s Eve together – and in the semi-big city!

Compared to either trip; our day has been quiet – at least after we got back together this morning.  Aiden and I had fun at Seth’s birthday party and sleepover yesterday.  With just the guys around, while we enjoyed some outdoor time around the farm and greenhouses; the entertainment highlights were all video game related; and we took turns playing some of the new games that Seth and other friends got for Christmas or his birthday.  We stayed up too-late; didn’t get much sleep; and wrapped up Seth’s party with an early breakfast before either heading home or staying to hang out with Seth and help out in the greenhouses with the chores that the Green family kids and teens take care of every day.

While Aiden and I were busy with all of that; Ehlana and Naomi enjoyed their girls-only night at Naomi’s house.  They ended up with four extra friends; and their top entertainments included mini-makeovers and chick flick movies.  They stayed up too-late too; so that’s why Ehlana and I are both tired tonight.

Our adventures today were indoors most of the time, and that’s entirely because it got cold last night and only warmed to near-freezing for the high.  We still went out for a bike ride with Naomi and Aiden, but we also stopped in for a visit to the lab that ended up lasting for a couple of hours; and then we spent most of the afternoon indoors at our house playing games with some of our cousins and having a long music practice.  Cassie, Michael, May, and Lee were home in time for dinner, so Naomi and Aiden stayed for that meal; and then they headed for their own homes when the two older couples headed out for visits with Michael’s family and some friends.  Cassie, Michael, and their friends are still out as we’re writing this; so that’s pretty much all of the news we have for today.  We’ve wrapped up our day with a Magi lesson with Mom; some family business work; and bath or Jacuzzi time.

Now it’s time to crash and nap, since we don’t expect our favorite collegians to get back until later, and we really are tired out; so, until next time...

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - December 28, 2021

Ethan and Ehlana:

Happy 10th Birthday, Seth Green!

Seth’s special day is why this update is so early today.  Our evening and sleepover at Naomi’s was a blast – even with Zack and Eli doing their best to annoy us because they apparently haven’t had enough of that sort of fun lately; and needed to practice on us.  We played games after dinner; watched a movie; and then wrapped up our day with a co-ed sofa sleepover for the two junior couples in the house.

Tai Chi ended up being by the river and with the Carringtons because Brianna invited us to join her when we were all outdoors at nearly the same time.  Naomi’s parents had a few chores for us after breakfast, but that didn’t take long; and then we were set free to bike and play for the rest of the morning to now.  Aiden and I are now getting ready to head for Seth’s home for the rest of the day – a party and sleepover for the guys; and we’ll be going out there after lunch.  Ehlana will be at Naomi’s again tonight – this time without us, Zack, or Eli; and they might end up with extra girlfriends too.  That hasn’t been decided for sure yet; so we’ll have to let you know how that goes for them with our next report.  We’ll do the same for the news from Seth’s party; so that’s all we have for today.

Until next time... this is Ethan and Ehlana Proctor; live from the hidden home of the Magi of the Light – and May the Magi Force be with you!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - December 27, 2021

Ethan and Ehlana:

We don’t actually have much news for our day so far.  Tai Chi by the river was nice and a bit warmer, but then it didn’t really warm up much from there for the rest of the day – only a few degrees.  Mom had some chores for us after breakfast – including the clean-up from that meal; so we didn’t meet up with Naomi and Aiden until around ten-thirty.  While it wasn’t as warm as we would have liked, we still went biking around town and on the trails; met up with cousins and other friends for cameo visits, group riding, or playground fun; and we were at home with a small gang of cousins for lunchtime in-between the rest of our outdoor adventures.  Jayden and his sisters were with us for that meal and some of the biking, but Jayden decided to head home with his parents today instead of staying with Jaimie and Kaitlyn until Wednesday.  He wanted the time with his parents; without his sisters; and the extra Christmas break time with his friends at home.  We took a break from the play time when we needed to say goodbye to our aunt, uncle, and cousin – once Uncle Blaine had finished a last bit of business work; and then we played and biked again since then until now.

This update is coming to you while we’re packing for a sleepover at Naomi’s house.  Mom and Dad won’t get a kid-free night because Cassie and Michael will still be here, but they haven’t had any time at all so far with just the four of them; and we’re overdue for sharing our best friends with their families.  We don’t have any major plans for tonight – just a quiet evening with Aiden and the Seagers; so you won’t likely miss out on anything exciting between now and our next update.  It is nearly time for us to get going again, though; so, until next time...
