Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - May 29, 2023

Ethan and Ehlana:

Memorial Day – another holiday that we celebrate without adding in any salutations like ‘Happy’ or ‘Merry’ to describe the way we’re supposed to feel.  That’s true even in our little corner of the world where we both remember our ancestors and then celebrate the lives we get to have because of their sacrifices.

We’re thinking about that tonight because we’re also looking into the future as Cassie and Michael will now be getting to work full-time starting tomorrow; and our future plans are really going to kick up to the next level as they get ready to travel the world and grow our family business and charities while also battling our Dark Magi enemies.  While there, let’s also add that our favorite Dark Magi Master is making her own moves, and thanks to the checks Mom did tonight; we know that Hathorne Industries just hired two of Cassie’s college classmates – Philippe and Pamela.  If you’ve read Cassie’s journals, you’ll know that she had some personal trouble with Philippe; and Pamela hated Cassie – and likely still does despite the fact that she ‘won’ Philippe and they’ve now been together for years.  We’re sure that Gwyneth hired them specifically because of their connection to Cassie, and while we wish that they weren’t drawn into this battle; there is nothing we can do about the situation.  They are on the way to Spain tonight, so we’re a bit jealous of that, but Gwyneth is on her summer break from Princeton; and we need to stay here for school and everything else we have going on this week.

While our day hasn’t been trip-to-Spain good, we have had an awesome, full day.  The buffet dinner at the Inn, campfire at the Carringtons; and sleepover at our house last night were all really great, and yes, we got to have a co-ed sofa sleepover in the lounge with Naomi and Aiden while at least two teen cousin couples got mixed up with their guest room assignments.  We are not going to add details; so let’s move on!  Tai Chi by the river this morning was nice; we had a major breakfast that we helped with both the cooking and clean-up; and then we headed out for the parade and service at the cemetery.  Naomi had to head out early to meet up with the school band, but the rest of us were still early for the parade and had time to chat with everyone around us until the parade reached us.  Watching Naomi playing with the band was my personal highlight, but we enjoyed the parade, the service, and the family stories that our grandparents shared with us after the service and while we walked around the cemetery.  Having another hot, awesome day helped to make all of that even better compared to previous years when we got rain; and that’s why we spent more time on that tour and story time.  We did eventually need to get home again, though, so we did that and then got everything ready for the picnic at the park.  Everything was loaded into Dad’s truck; we helped with unloading the truck at the park; and then we were put on kid control while our family day camp was set up and until we gathered for lunch.  That meal was a crazy blast of busy; and then we spent the afternoon playing games and having fun with just one break for the National Moment of Silence.  Okay, there were other breaks for drinks or frozen snacks, and some of us went for a short swim in the river to cool down, but we played most of the time through until it was time to pack up and head for home again.

That’s one thing about this holiday weekend that can be different from the others – the need for our guests to hit the road for their own homes by late-afternoon.  We helped with the work at the park; with getting vehicles loaded up; and some chores around our house.  We got to say goodbye to all of our weekend guests before they left town, but those were cameo moments that blasted past from the first one at the park through until the last guests left the Carrington and Everett homes.

It was time to do more work at home after that, and between the chores and family business work; we kept busy until Mom sent us upstairs for bath or Jacuzzi time.  We had a snack dinner too, but after all of the great food at the park; none of us really wanted to eat very much anyway.  The tub time was needed; and we feel better after getting cleaned up and ready for bed.  We did some time phasing to get all of the work done; so we’re also getting tired too.  Life is going to get back to normal tomorrow, but we still need to be rested up and ready for it; so that’s all for tonight.  Stay tuned, since ‘normal’ in our little town can and does get very interesting and weird – especially when you least expect it! ;^)

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!
