Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - September 19, 2021

Ethan and Ehlana:

Happy 8th Birthday, Eli!

Having an awesome weather day in the second-half of September along with a birthday adventure at Eagle Gorge combined to make celebrating Eli’s special day easy – even with Zack and Eli together for all of the fun!

Note to our future selves – have all of Eli’s birthday parties outdoors and with a lot of entertainment options that keep Zack and Eli too-busy to play pranks or practical jokes! ;^)

Our day began with Tai Chi in the back yard of the townhouses; we had another group breakfast at the Grill and Griddle; and then we attended Cassie and Michael’s local church before heading out to Eagle Gorge with a picnic lunch and plans to play all afternoon.  Cassie, Michael, Rowen, and Tim invited a gang of college friends too, so we got to play with some of our usual favorites like May, Madelana, and Stefan as well as new friends that included members of the football team and a couple of Cassie’s fellow doctoral students.  We went biking, rock climbing, and swimming for the highlights of our play time; and then we packed up and hit the road by five o’clock so that we could still get home in decent time.

Dinner was fast food to go while on the way around the edges of the city; we were a bit crowded in all of the vehicles because Dad headed for Crystal Springs and his week in the city instead of coming home for a few hours; and after a long, hot, and amazing day; most of the passengers were ready to relax and take it easy during those hours on the road.  Some traffic issues delayed us along the way, so it was heading toward ten o’clock by the time we got home; unpacking took a while; and then we needed to take Jacuzzi or bath breaks to get cleaned up after our Eagle Gorge adventures.

That’s added up to a late night already, so that’s all we have for tonight because we need to nap before getting started on our school week.  This has been an amazing weekend away; we loved everything we did with our family and friends; and we’re ready to crash-and-nap now; so, until next time...
