Ehlana's and Ethan's Journals - September 20, 2020

Ehlana:

I’ll start this report with the news from Eli’s birthday party and sleepover – from his big sister’s and her best friend’s perspective.

Hanging out around a small gang of younger boys was more-annoying than scary; which is why all of the girls their age were glad to not be with us yesterday for any of Eli’s birthday fun.  We helped out as much as we could; played nice despite being pestered incessantly; and stayed up too-late while ‘defending’ ourselves against the pranks and attempted ‘break-ins’ to Naomi’s room that continued until well-past midnight.  Zack and Eli led the way for all of that – as well as the food contests, gaming, and everything else the boys did yesterday.  They did eventually run out of steam; and then we got to have a handful of hours of peace until this morning.

Tai Chi in Naomi’s back yard was chilly, but the boys slept through it; breakfast was a continuation of junior prankster horrors; and then we eventually went to church – and escaped so that we could sit with Ethan and Aiden.  I’m more-tired than Ethan; so I’ll leave the rest of this update to him – including the rest of our news for today.

Ethan:

We’re still doing this report together while having our bedtime chat; and I’m glad that we’re home again; since Ehlana and Naomi really did have a tough time last night – though they had some fun mixed in too – if in a Halloween-movie sort of way! ;^)

The rest of my Saturday was much-quieter.  Aiden and I went for a bike ride on the trails with some other friends; we checked out the progress of the new trail – and the equipment left near the park for the weekend.  None of the new trail is really useable yet, but that didn’t keep us from exploring; and that’s why Aiden and I needed extra time to clean up before dinner with his parents, Hailey, and Leah.  Mom and Dad weren’t the only parents getting a kid-free night last night.  Leah was with Hailey while Sebastian was at his cousin’s birthday party – and yes, it still seems weird to have that happen even though Leah and Sebastian aren’t technically our cousins at all.  Brianna did a sleepover with Faith; so that’s at least three sets of parents getting a night off – and we don’t need to add any details.

Dinner with Aiden’s family was definitely quiet by comparison to what Ehlana had to deal with last night; and we had a quiet evening too that included a family walk and some front porch visits; a girls’ choice movie; and an early bedtime – though Aiden and I did play video games in his room for an hour or so before going to sleep.  Hopefully that news won’t mess with our reputations in the future as our journals are read, but we were okay with the extra sleep.  We had spectators for our Tai Chi by the river this morning, but Hailey and Leah aren’t a problem with that sort of thing the way Zack and Eli are for Ehlana and Naomi; and our breakfast was another little blast of quiet fun too.  We didn’t have to rush to get to church on time, and while we were happy to be reunited with our favorite girls once there; we didn’t need the escape that they were so grateful to have us help them out with while Zack and Eli continued their adventures with their gang of friends.

Dad had a lot of work to get done during the rest of the day, so we had some play time after lunch; spent a few hours at the lab; had a late dinner; and then we worked or studied after that meal.  For us, that included some ‘real’ studying, a Magi lesson with Mom, a video chat with Cassie and Michael, and a music practice.  We just finished up with bath or Jacuzzi time; and we’re up later than we should be for a school night – though tomorrow is a ‘home’ day for us.  Cassie and Michael didn’t have much in the way of news for us tonight, but we had a nice chat with them; and they are very happy and doing well even with the ongoing weird that continues with Covid restrictions on-campus and in the big city.  Pandemic milestones continue to be passed – with thirty-one million confirmed cases worldwide and more than seven million here in our country.  We also topped two million new cases in a week for the first time; and we’ll likely know in the next couple of months whether we’ll get a big surge in new cases as we head into the normal flu season for the northern hemisphere.

We don’t want to wrap this up on a somber note, but while I’d love to offer something upbeat and entertaining; there just isn’t any of that kind of news to report – either here at home or elsewhere.  This has still been a good day for us, though, and we’ve had fun with our family and friends; so we can assure you that everything is well here in our little corner of the world even if it isn’t always the most-exciting place to live.

Then again, we do also have some rather special talents; so there might be a lot of kids our age that would be happy to trade their more-exciting daily lives for the small-town life of a junior Magi Master! ;^)
