Ethan and Ehlana:
Winter temperatures returned to town overnight; so we spent most of the day indoors – at home, school, the lab, and then back at home again for the evening. We’ve had a good day, but don’t really have any news to convey to our future fellow Magi readers.
We can’t avoid commenting on world news no matter how much we’d like to do that, and while most of the top news stories don’t affect us directly so far; we can and do empathize with everyone being harmed by the conflicts and political insanity that seems to be spreading so dangerously around the world. The top news of the day is Russia’s declaration of support for the Eastern Ukraine breakaway ‘republics’ that includes recognizing their sovereignty and promising military protection. Sanctions on Russia are being piled on now, and while many politicians consider those measures to be peaceful; we know history and understand that those tactics have led to escalations into full-out war when applied against opponents with the power to retaliate. We will continue to hope for peace, but the Ukrainian people are at risk of paying a very high price for a political battle led by leaders that don’t care for their well-being or safety. Another rant is likely due now, but we’ll stop with that; and point out that Ukrainian leaders ought to understand that they are on the path toward becoming the next country to be destroyed; leaving them with little or nothing of consequence to govern over.
Moving on to Canada, the government there is one political step closer to ratifying their use of the emergencies act, but whether that succeeds or not will likely be irrelevant because the damage has already been done to their democracy and country. When their actions are looked at in hindsight, we’ll hope that people will see that physically, financially, and spiritually attempting to destroy anyone daring to peacefully dissent and disagree with the government is really just the same tactics as sanctions on countries except targeted internally and at individual citizens.
It’s likely time to stop and move on to nap time, but we will at least mention that these two stories are far from the only problems in the world. Covid-19 has not suddenly gone away, and the costs on all levels continue to be a serious drain on world resources. Conflicts and human rights horrors continue in many different places; and we could write volumes on the lack of progress for dealing with climate and environmental issues that are going to add more pressure as the most-needed resources become increasingly scarce.
All of that adds up to a depressing look at our world, but we are Magi of the Light and know what is meant to happen in our future; so there is hope even when there is too-much darkness in the world right now. Let’s all hope that we begin to see more light in the world soon, since while we have limitations to what our little group of Magi can collectively do, we are far from the only people that choose the light over the dark; and enough of those people working together can make a difference!
That’s at least a slightly-happier note to end on; so we will.
Until next time, this little blast from your near or distant past is written for you with love from Ethan and Ehlana Proctor – twin junior Magi Masters of the Light!
