Ehlana and Ethan:
For Valentine’s Day, our band name will be Naomi and the Heartbreakers; and that’s our top news of the day.
We fell asleep last night before any of us got half-way through the bedtime movie; Tai Chi was indoors due to rain instead of cold this morning; and our home school day was uneventful. Instead of going to the lab this afternoon, we had a band practice; Naomi and Aiden went home in time for dinner with their families; and we’ve had a quiet work-study evening with Mom and Dad after an easy-cook-and-clean-up dinner of soup and mini-subs.
We haven’t written much about world news lately, so before we wrap this up; we’ll do that.
Covid vaccinations are ramping up around the world, and we really hope that they’ll work; but continue to have concerns about side-effects and whether they’ll work – especially long-term and as we have to deal with virus mutations. Let’s pray for the best; and hope that we won’t look back on this experiment in new vaccine technology with regrets sometime in the future.
On the political front, nothing really seems to have significantly changed when it comes to what is actually being done among our national leaders. The political theatre continues between the two parties that are really all on the same side; the people that need help the most aren’t getting it; and all of the conflicts and tensions with other countries around the world continue – or are being escalated. Censorship and anger are both on the rise; neither are good for our society; and we could have even more trouble this year if our leaders around the world don’t get a clue and make some major changes to their perceptions of reality!
Okay, that’s enough bad news for one day – though we should add that the big drops we’ve seen recently in confirmed new Covid cases and deaths per day could be a good sign. We’ll have to wait and see whether that changes as lockdown and social-distancing restrictions are eased – and as more of the population gets vaccinated. We aren’t going to comment on the inequity of vaccine distribution around the world. That isn’t fair or right, but it is a fact of life as we know it; and no surprise that the wealthiest countries – and people – are getting the biggest share of the first batches of the vaccine doses.
That’s all for tonight. We have school in the morning; need to get some sleep now; and want to be rested and ready for the weekend.
