Ehlana and Ethan:
We don’t have any news from our home-school day, but while it was still really cold out today; we did opt for play time at the lab this afternoon once we had our school work done for the day. I was especially-happy to get back into my lab while Ethan went to play in his archives; though I probably shouldn’t feel happy about getting to take my first look at that horrid mutant virus that Gwyneth tried to expose Cassie, Michael, and their friends to on Cassie’s birthday. I am a science nerd, though, and as awful as that virus truly is; it was still fascinating to get a look at something that was created with the intention of causing serious harm. That interest doesn’t distract me from doing that for the purpose of finding a cure or vaccine against it, but that isn’t any easier than finding a cure for the coronavirus and other diseases and viruses; so our efforts will be longer-term – unless we can get our hands on the research information that went into creating that mutant horror. Mom might be able to find that for us somewhere in the bowels of the Hathorne Industries systems, but hasn’t had any luck with that so far.
Moving along, we worked and played at the lab or archives until late; Mom came and brought us home at around seven-thirty; we had a late dinner; and then we were in the office for a few time-stopped hours of studying and work. The winter freeze and storms have caused a lot of problems around the country, and we mention that here because some of our work was charity-related – particularly for places like in Texas where they’ve had the added problem of power outages due to the cold shutting down power plants that weren’t designed to handle near-zero temperatures. We’ve helped where we can; and hope that everyone will try to help their neighbors in need – just as we’ve needed to do during the pandemic for most of a year now.
We’ll also mention that those power outages have had us thinking about our own local power grid and the solar-wind farm that provides most of our electricity. That isn’t because we’re worried about it – we know that the wind turbines and solar panels can handle the cold because we made sure that they could. We are not, however, always going to be one-hundred percent on power from that farm; so we should likely look at more plans to be ready for providing power when we do run into times when getting enough solar and wind power won’t be an option – especially when we’d like to avoid the need to rely on the rest of the power grid when that happens. That’s something to work on another time; so let’s move on a wrap this up.
We ended up working until nearly ten o’clock, so with the added hours in the time phase; we’ve had a very long day. That’s why we skipped a music practice; we’re keeping the twin bedtime chat short; and now we’re ready to go and get some sleep – so we will.
