Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - June 18, 2025

Ethan and Ehlana:

Happy 30th Birthday, Violet!

Our cousin’s birthday dinner was the entertainment highlight of our day – even while we helped out with some next-gen kid control and the clean-up while at Violet and Dillon’s house.  We’ve had a wet, rainy day with some thunderstorms, but that didn’t get in the way of our work at the lab or archives this morning and through most of the afternoon until we needed to get to that party; and then we went home with Mom and worked in the office until around ten o’clock when bath or Jacuzzi time was ‘scheduled’ as part of our evening adventures.  Ehlana and I have been doing our bedtime computer checks and twin chat for a little while now; so let’s move this along – starting with the rest of the double update we promised in our last report.

Monday evening was our last camping night due to the forecast rain for last night.  We had fun with our four best friends with the entertainment including after-dark swims; ‘live’ music, and lots of quiet chat and co-ed cuddle time by the river.  We went to bed a bit earlier than the other camping nights; and the co-ed nap time was a highlight of the day for all of us.  Tai Chi by the river on Tuesday morning and breakfast with Mom was followed by packing up our tents and gear; we saw Mom off on her trip to Crystal Springs; and then Ehlana and I played at the lab until we stopped and moved on to a play afternoon with our friends and some cousins.  We had a picnic lunch, biked trails, played, and went for a few swims.  You know that Ehlana was with Aiden and I was with Naomi while Mom was away last night, so we were split up for dinner; met up at the park for our ball practices; and then we were with the Drapers or Seagers for the rest of the night.  Ehlana assures me that she had fun with Aiden; they had some music play time; watched a movie; and then the rest of their fun was not anything that Ehlana and I wanted to discuss.  That goes both ways and was true for the best parts of my night with Naomi, and while the girls definitely made time for some girl chat; Aiden and I do not trade those kinds of stories with each other or with any of our guy friends!  The rain moved in overnight, so Tai Chi was indoors and separate this morning; we had breakfast with Naomi or Aiden too; and then after helping with some chores; Ehlana and I were at the lab or archives – as we’ve already reported.

That’s pretty much our own news; so let’s move on to the top world and political stories.  That starts with the Iran-Israel war – though accurate news is a challenge when both sides are spinning everything and truth is always the first casualty of war anyway.  President Trump has apparently decided on an attack plan to join in on the war with Israel, and while he hasn’t sent the final order yet; we expect that will happen.  Since we did just finish up with our year of national politics education, we can’t help but wonder how that’s possible when congress is supposed to have sole authority to declare war on another country unless they attack us first, but our leaders have been ignoring the constitution for decades; so why should this be any different?  We are sure that this won’t end well for Iran – or for the rest of the world, but our world leaders don’t seem to care about anything other than power and wealth.  They also don’t learn from past mistakes; since this looks a lot like previous conflicts and will likely end as-badly as Iraq, Afghanistan, and most of the other conflicts of the most-recent forty or fifty years.  Let’s include the last two conflicts with Iran back in the nineteen-fifties and eighties; since it took around twenty-five years for the Iranians to depose the Shah that we installed there after overthrowing a democratically-elected government; and then we did not with the war that we had our proxies at the time, Iraq, fight against Iran for eight years – a war that cost the lives of millions.

While that is all top news, we haven’t forgotten the ongoing horrors in Gaza and the West Bank against the Palestinians; and they do not care whether they are supported by protests elsewhere in the world – they just want the world to force Israel and their allies to stop killing them and destroying their homeland!  The conflict in Ukraine continues too; and their government is finding out the hard way what the puppet Afghan government learned a few years ago – that they are expendable and won’t get never-ending support from the United States as we move on to the next, shiny new war!  All future proxies should take note, but probably won’t; since this has been a repeating history for decades now too.

That’s enough for tonight.  We could rant on about tariffs and the trade wars; the nationwide protests, riots, and worse going on in our country; or the political theatre that is out there to distract the masses from banding together and demanding better when it comes to the real problems.  Instead of going there, Ehlana and I will try to be content and happy with our accomplishments today and this evening; and we’re really looking forward to the adventures ahead of us for the rest of the week and weekend.  Stay tuned to read all about those stories; and we’ll call it a night now and get some sleep.

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!
