Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - February 18, 2023

Ethan and Ehlana:

Let’s get right to the party report from last night; since that has still been our top news for the past two days!

Ehlana and I met up with Naomi and Aiden before heading over to Aaron’s house yesterday afternoon, and we ended up being among the first friends to get there.  We ended up helping out with some of the work while the rest of Aaron’s friends and family arrived.  We’ll mention here that Aaron’s Mom couldn’t get home until after most of the kids at KidZone had been picked up, but his Dad finished work early so that he could supervise that work and the social time before dinner.

We’re not Aaron’s closest friends, but Naomi is probably his best same-grade girl-friend, and Sophia is one of our best friends; so we’re sure that our connections with Aaron will grow closer over the next few years.  For last night, though, we were somewhere in the middle of the pack for the friends at the party; and that was mostly because three out of four of us are around a year younger than Aaron’s and Naomi’s Grade Seven friends.  Add in a few Grade Eight dates; and we were also among the smallest guests too.

Getting back to the actual party news, the help we offered didn’t really take very long, and then the social fun before dinner included video gaming in the family room; music videos and chat time in the living room, and just hanging out in the kitchen and dining room.  Aiden and I played a couple of video games, but that had more to do with Ehlana and Naomi hanging out with the girls for a while; and we didn’t push our skills too-hard so that we didn’t get caught up in defending against challengers for half the night.  We all had fun through until dinnertime; and then that meal was entertaining without any serious tween goofiness.  Pizzeria pizza is sure to continue to be a party favorite for kids and teens for a long time; and we’re not getting bored with the fare – especially since we love to try favorite toppings and combinations that our friends and their families prefer.  That isn’t true for most of our friends, but then there are always standard pizzas at all parties – basics ranging from meat-lovers to veggies-only options.  Aaron’s parents had side dishes to go along with the pizzas, so even with a gang of tween and teen guys; they didn’t run out of food.  As for the lack of food games, we’ll suggest that the lack of them had everything to do with Aaron being more like us than our more-overt friends like Miles and Joshua.  Then again, it could also be because Aaron’s Mom took care of most of us at KidZone at least once in a while; so our toddler training might have just kicked in again while around her tonight! ;^)

We did all of the usual birthday fun during dinner and dessert, and Aaron liked his gifts – including the group gift that we chose for him.  We did get razzed a bit about our gift choice, but Aaron shares our musical interests; and he loved the studio time – though we’ll see whether he uses it for entertainment or actually making music videos or digital recordings to sell to the public.  Aaron is learning to play the trombone at school, but he also plays the fiddle; and loves country music.  We won’t get into the details about Aaron’s gifts, but will mention that his parents got him the next-level mountain bike; and that had everything to do with why we went out biking with him this afternoon.  That’s getting ahead of the story, though, so let’s get back to the rest of the party news.

We helped with the post-dinner clean-up – and got teased about that too, but Aaron’s parents appreciated the help; and we couldn’t all play video games at the same time anyway.  Once that work was done, Aaron’s party was different from others because we moved on to some music play time.  That wasn’t just Aaron playing for us – it was a family-and-friends’ blast of fun that we took turns at or at the least joined in for – whether that was singing or dancing.  It was a bit crowded in the living room, but that really just added to the fun; and that entertainment kept us busy until we settled down for movie time – with one movie choice in the living room and another in the family room.  We picked the chick flick in the living room, so we weren’t with Aaron because he was in the family room for the sci-fi-action movie – along with two-thirds of the tween and teen guys and some of the girls.  Co-ed cuddling was an option in both rooms, but Ehlana and Naomi chose the romantic comedy for us; and that was partly to help out with making sure that the family room wasn’t over-crowded.  Our movie was better anyway; so we were happy with that choice.

Aaron didn’t actually have a time limit for the party, but his guests began to head home after the movies while gaming resumed in the family room and music videos were available in the living room – along with the quieter chat time.  We split our time between the two rooms after that; helped out with some party wind-down clean-up work; and then we headed home at a quarter-to-one.  We weren’t the last guests, but only Aaron’s best friends stayed longer – and for what ended up being the rest of the night.  Sophia walked home with us; and that brings us to the latest for Aaron and Sophia.  They’re not officially dating, but we’re sure that it is just a matter of time before they are; and it is obvious to us that they’re a match.  We won’t get into that tonight, but stay tuned; since that is sure to be a near-future tween drama story!

Naomi and Aiden stayed with us last night, and there isn’t much more to write about for the rest of our night.  We got ready for bed; met up in the lounge for our co-ed sofa sleepover; and wound down to that fairly-quickly with some chat time and music videos that didn’t last long before we were all sleeping for the handful of hours we had left until morning.

As for today, we were up at normal time for Tai Chi and breakfast with Mom and Dad; we caught up on all of the latest news from Dad’s week in the city; and then we spent the rest of the morning doing chores at three houses.  We met up again at our house for lunch; did the biking and park play fun with our friends for most of the afternoon; and that was pretty good thanks to the return to warm weather that topped out in the high-fifties.  We couldn’t keep Naomi or Aiden tonight, so they went to their homes in time for dinner.  We had a quiet meal and evening with Mom and Dad; bath or Jacuzzi time came early; and now we’re ready to crash and nap for the rest of the night.  There isn’t anything else to add to this update; so we’ll wrap it up and get to that sleeping time right now.

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!
