Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - December 31, 2023

Ethan and Ehlana:

Happy New Year’s Eve Day!

Tai Chi and breakfast with Mom and Dad made for a happy, quiet start to our day – especially compared to most of our hometown cousins!  The service at church was teen-led and a lot of fun as we celebrated the imminent start to the New Year with our family, friends, and neighbors.  We’ve had a play afternoon since then and after a lunch that Mom and Dad hosted and included Grandma, Grandpa, Cassie, and Michael.  Now we’re busy getting ready for the New Year’s Eve dinner and party at the Inn; so that’s all we have for today.  I do not want to be late for picking up my date and Ehlana wants to be ready when Aiden gets here to escort her to the Inn too.  We should mention that Miranda and Stephanie offered a noon buffet at the Inn too, but didn’t try to do more; since some set-up is required to get all of the dining rooms ready for the annual party.  The Johnson clan will be at the Inn too, and the party was sold-out weeks ago or longer; so we are expecting another best-ever kind of night!  There will also be co-ed sofa sleepovers after the party; so you’ll need to wait for all of the details until next year! ;^)

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - December 30, 2023

Ethan and Ehlana:

Happy 6th Anniversary, Josiah and Christina!

Merry Johnson Family Christmas!

This might be a bit shocking to future readers, but Ehlana and I are on our own tonight and our best friends are with their own families.  We all want to get a good night of sleep ahead of New Year’s Eve and Day; so we declined other opportunities with the Johnson clan and choose the quieter rest of the night.

I probably should have gone with that option last night, but after our family dinner and all of the fun with the Johnson clan as they arrived; the Carrington’s home was declared video gaming central for the guys; Aiden and I stayed and played for the night; and the teen and kid girls opted for spending the night at the Ayres’ house or ours – with Ehlana and Naomi hosting some of the tween and teen girls – and Brianna and Lady; since they definitely didn’t want to be home with a gang of boys.  We all had fun; the girls got more sleep; and they also avoided all pranks, food and drinking games; and too-many really bad jokes!  For the record, girls still love girls-only nights after they are over; and I am one of the guys that can live without guy-nights for a long time after each experience of one of them!

Moving along to today, Ehlana and I were not involved in the actual Johnson family Christmas dinner and gift exchange, but after our separate Tai Chi workouts and breakfasts; we did help out with entertaining the kids – including some outdoor play time and shopping.  With the stores open, we were able to have lunch with Naomi and Aiden and spend the afternoon with them.  The high for the day topped out at only the low-forties, but that was still enough to have us outdoors for some of the play time; and we had cousins and other friends out at the park and on the trails too – though those outdoor breaks were short for the Johnson cousins; since they were fairly-busy with their Christmas fun that the Carringtons hosted.  Naomi and Aiden headed for home or the bakery respectively by four o’clock; we went home; and spent the rest of the day with Mom and Dad.  Dinner-for-four was quiet and great; Mom ended up doing a Magi lesson with us; we all did some work in the office; and bath or Jacuzzi time was early because we really do all want the extra nap time now.

That’s also enough for this report.  We don’t really have many details from the Carringtons; Cassie and Michael have kept busy with his family – along with some outdoor fun and play time with other kids that included two cameo moments with us; and any details for adventures with our cousins and other friends can wait for another update.  Ehlana and I are ready to wrap up our bedtime computing, twin chat, and this report; so we’ll do that right now!

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - December 29, 2023

Ethan and Ehlana:

Another day, another early update!

Today we’re on our computers early because we’re going to be busy for the rest of the day with incoming Johnson clan cousins and our best friends, and while we haven’t actually made any firm plans for the night; we do expect co-ed sleepovers to be involved!

Seth’s birthday party and dinner last night were the entertainment highlights of our day.  For us, we especially-loved getting to be there with Jeremy and Kaitlyn; we joined them to help out with some of the work because they’d be drafted to help with the party set-up and dinner work anyway; and the sibling connection between Jeremy and Seth isn’t something that we think about very often but added to the adventure for all of us!  On that note, let’s also mention that Seth’s sister, Madison, both got teased about and added some jokes about herself and Jayden, and that was fun too, but the two-and-a-half years between them is still a big deal with Jayden being too-young for her still when she is just weeks away from turning fifteen.  For the record, we’ll also add that Seth’s father, Kyle, still has fun with those jokes that are entirely about his wife’s teen interest in Uncle Blaine, but let’s save another round of those jokes for Jeremy and Kaitlyn’s future wedding! ;^)

Moving along, the actual party highlights for us included a greenhouses and farms tour that some of us wanted to do when it was offered – especially when a hay ride was part of that tour.  There was video gaming in the ‘play’ room that wasn’t still called that by the teens and tweens in the Green family; the living room was chat central with music videos playing in the background; and most of the work happened in the kitchen and dining room.  We don’t spend very much time with Seth’s parents because they are so busy most of the time with their farms and greenhouses year-round; so helping out with the work included the bonus of chatting with them for more than an hour in total.  We got razzed about that by some of our friends, but Ehlana in particular loved to talk with them about plants, flowers, and the work that they play around with for creating hybrids that is basically an all-natural version of genetics that isn’t essentially different from what Ehlana does with her research – except that she can track and fine-tune her efforts on a genetic level.

Seth’s birthday dinner was entirely home-made except for the birthday cakes that were Olde Bakery favorites.  The pastas and sides included something for everyone – even the pickiest tween eater; and we managed to get through the entire culinary event without any serious eating or drinking games issues or practical jokes.  That might have had something to do with the usual pranksters playing it cool around the older teens, but most of the men in the Green family are also fairly-large – if not quite to the Lee Landry level; so getting any of them mad might be a very bad idea!  Helping with the clean-up didn’t take long for the volunteers and draftees because we had a lot of helpers; and then the evening entertainment included an unplugged set by Naomi and the Holiday Harmonies that led to some dancing in the living room and kitchen for couples of all ages.  That was another highlight for us, and while Seth had some friends staying the night, it was also a work night ahead of a holiday weekend for the Green family; so we were picked up and brought home by nine o’clock.  Let’s add that Jeremy and Kaitlyn helped out with the driving, since there wasn’t room for eight tweens in the minivan, but they didn’t stay with us last night – though they would have been welcomed and the offer was made.  Our co-ed sleepover for eight tweens was another highlight of our day; we watched a movie; enjoyed the cuddle and chat time that included the post-party review and commentary; and then most of us went to sleep while Jayden and Susan apparently sat up and talked until after two o’clock.

That’s why they slept in while the rest of us were up on-time for our usual Tai Chi workout.  Sophia and Aaron aren’t practicing on their own every day, but do want to learn with us; so we’re easing them into those lessons.  We also helped with the breakfast cooking and cleaning; that meal with Mom and Dad was fun; and then there were some chores to do for some of us while Susan went along with Jayden to help him with packing for his return home and spend that extra time with him too; since we won’t be back here before we all head back to school a week from Monday.  Ehlana and I eventually went on to help Naomi and Aiden with some chores at their homes; we did a round of visits with the Everetts, Violet, Dillon, and their kids, and our departing Proctor cousins ahead of their trips to Woodvale or Granite Park for their ‘away’ family Christmases.  We did not get in on a lunch at the Inn that Cassie and Michael semi-hosted while taking temporary custody of their niece and nephews for the rest of the day while most of the parents and grandparents were busy with holiday weekend work, but we did have a nice lunch at Sophia’s house while Mom and Dad were at the Inn instead.  That might not seem fair for Sophia’s Mom, but she actually wants us to spend more time there – or at least she had fun teasing us about barely-recognizing her youngest daughter anymore while we shared that meal and helped with the work too.  We’ve had some outdoor play time and biking since then, and while it isn’t all that warm out, it is still above freezing and nice-enough for the end of December; and we needed the fresh air and exercise.

Now we’re transitioning to holiday weekend mode, and while Mom and Dad aren’t hosting weekend guests; we are going to be spending a lot of time with the Johnson clan; and that will include welcoming them here and helping with the work that goes along with those arrivals and their luggage.  Dinner for most of the family still in town is also at the Carringtons, and we need to help Mom with getting our contributions ready and over there; so it is time to wrap this up and move on.  We expect that our holiday fun and adventures will continue to be awesome, so while we go and live every exciting moment; stay tuned for those reports and we hope that you are having a great day too whenever your ‘now’ is in our near or distant future!

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - December 28, 2023

Ethan and Ehlana:

Happy 12th Birthday, Seth Green!

It’s time for another micro-update because we need to head out for Seth’s birthday party soon; and plan on being too-busy for the rest of the day with the party and then with a last co-ed sofa sleepover here with eight tweens before Jayden heads home for the holiday weekend tomorrow.

We had an awesome night with Cassie and Michael that included Pizzeria pizza and sides for dinner; music play time, movies, and chat time that we stayed up too-late for; and then the tween co-ed nap time in the family room.  Tai Chi was indoors; we had a hot breakfast; and then we eventually moved on so that Cassie and Michael could get to work.  Chores were up next at several homes – though that was only with Naomi and Aiden for Ehlana and me while the rest of our temporary little gang were busy elsewhere.  We’ll all be at Seth’s party, and in Jayden’s case; that’s because he’s going as Susan’s date – though we’d have gotten him an invite anyway if needed.

Okay, the rest of our story can wait for the next report, and we do want to finish getting ready to go; so we’re out of here!

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - December 27, 2023

Ethan and Ehlana:

Ehlana and I had fun with our respective co-ed sleepovers with Aiden or Naomi.  The top news from last night, though, was probably the snow that arrived – mostly while we slept; and that we were drafted to clear from driveways and sidewalks at several homes.  That wasn’t a big deal, since we didn’t get dumped on or anything, but it did change up our plans for the first half of our day.  We took care of the work at the Drapers and Seagers homes respectively and separately; stayed apart for breakfast; and then got together for more shoveling at our house and then at the Bassetts when we saw Sophia outside and working too while her father and brother were busy at the gas station.  We had some snow play time too – including with some cousins and other friends; Mom hosted a warm-up drinks and snack break; and then there were some more chores to do before we were set free to play for the rest of the day.

The snow adventures couldn’t include anything major with only an inch or so of snow, but we had some snowball fights; checked out the action at the park; and tried just a short bit of snow-biking that didn’t end up being as much fun as we’d hoped.  Ehlana and I hosted some gaming and music fun in the lounge with a small gang of cousins and friends; and now we’ve split up so that some of us can get ready for a tween night with Cassie and Michael.  They’re getting eight of us tonight including Jayden and Susan; and that’s why we’re offering another early update.

We also don’t want to be late, so that’s all we have for now; and the rest of our story can wait for our next report!

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!
