Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals- April 16, 2025

Ethan and Ehlana:

Happy 30th Birthday, Dillon!

Ehlana and I are hosting Ryan and Emma tonight while their parents are getting a kid-free night for Dillon’s birthday; and we will not be writing about that at all – and do not want or need details.  We did have fun at Dillon’s dinner and party; helped out with the kids before, during, and after the meal; and the party was more-fun thanks to another warm afternoon with a high that topped seventy that allowed us to take the kids out to play at the park and in the back yard at Violet and Dillon’s house.  Naomi and Aiden helped us out with all of that, but they are not here for the night because we’re saving up for the holiday weekend.  Okay, that isn’t exactly true, since we had some sleepovers booked already, but we don’t need to let facts get in the way of the jokes.

Naomi and I went over to Aiden’s for Tai Chi by the river with Ehlana and Aiden this morning; we split up for breakfast; and then met up again when we needed to get to school.  The nice weather allowed for some bonus outdoor time while at school, so we had a pretty good day there; and then we pretty much just stopped in at our homes to drop off our school gear and get ready for the party and play time.  We’ve covered the basics for that, but Dillon also had a few special gifts for his thirtieth; we didn’t get in on any of the roasting while busy with the kids; and Ryan and Emma made sure that their father had fun with the song, wish, and birthday cake and ice cream.

We should add that the party continued for Violet, Dillon, and some of their friends after we came home with Mom, Dad, Ryan, and Emma, but we hadn’t planned on staying anyway; and the kids had more fun with us as we played some video games and watched a movie that Emma chose.  Mom also did a Magi lesson with us that was entertaining; and then bath and bedtime was an adventure too.  Our cousins are sleeping now with Emma in Ehlana’s bed and Ryan crashed in my room; so Ehlana and I are just dealing with our usual bedtime computer checks and twin chat fun.

World and political news over the past couple of days has just been a mess to try and sort through as talk and actions just don’t match up and the theatre continues to try and keep everyone distracted and doing nothing to solve the real problems that should be most-important.  It should actually be shocking to see how many people care more about the personal politics of reality-show personalities than about how many people died today in Ukraine or the Middle East, but that’s the norm – and just a single example of the never-ending and pointless stories that get hyped and pushed on us while atrocities are ignored.  From all of that, I’m sure that you can deduce that nothing has changed on any war front, and the tariff battles are so-fluid that nobody knows what to do or how to proceed with trade into the near-future when it seems impossible to know how much anything is going to cost from one day to the next.  Maybe that isn’t a big deal for a pen if the price doubles, but if you’re buying a Boeing 787 jet and don’t know whether it’ll cost two-hundred and fifty million dollars or more than double that price; it is definitely an issue!  What is and isn’t being tariffed right now changes daily – if not hourly; so there is no point in writing about other details when they’ll likely just be out-of-date by morning!

We want to wrap this up on a positive note, so let’s include a Cassie and Michael update.  As mentioned previously, they are making their way toward us to be here by tomorrow night and for the Easter weekend.  They’ve been working their way toward us from Texas; and have been splitting their time between work meetings and site visits during the day and then driving into the night to the next stops on their itinerary.  Depending on how their work goes tomorrow, they may get back in time for us to visit with them, but if their work keeps them busy until late in the day; they won’t get here until midnight or later.  Either way, they will be here for the Good Friday service at church; and we’ll get to spend at least some time with them while also needing to share them with Michael’s family and their friends.

We’re down to one school day to go before the holiday weekend, though, and need to be up early to help with our cousins before we get to that part of our day, so that’s all for tonight and this report.

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!
