Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - September 7, 2018

Ethan:

We’re writing our journal updates early today because Ehlana and I are having a play night and sleepover with Aiden and Naomi – and I only use that order to note that this isn’t a co-ed sleepover; though I’m sure that I’ll get teased about that anyway.

Our school day has been fun, but there isn’t really any news to report; so I’ll likely have better stories for the next report.  It has been a busy first week back at school, though, and I’m ready to have fun with Ehlana and our best friends; sot I’m going to wrap this up and do that.

Ethan – out!

Ehlana:

It is sometimes really great to have a twin brother with a better talent for speed reading and writing than I have!

What he said; and now I’m going to go and have fun for the rest of the night too!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - September 6, 2018

Ethan:

Take yesterday, add in the first game night of the new school year, and push back the Magi lesson and studying by a couple of hours because of that play time; and that’s been our day.  The weather is a bit cooler, we’ve had a dash or three of rain; but that’s been a welcome change from the hot – as long as we don’t head into fall too soon!

Okay, that’s it for tonight; I’m ready to get some sleep; so I’m out of here with just the micro-report.

Ehlana:

I don’t really have any news for today, but game night at the Inn has me thinking about how much quieter it has gotten here in town now that the summer holidays are finished.  There are still some seasonal campers in the area – most of them snowbirds that stay in campgrounds during the summer and head south for the winter; but with the summer tourists gone for another year; it really does get quiet – in a good way.

That probably sounds funny, since we’re hardly the vacation destination that everyone flocks to in the summer, but even double or triple the normal population is a big deal in a small town.  That isn’t news for anyone that will be reading this someday in the future, but it is a real, seasonal change that affects our lives here; and I just wanted to make not of it – just in case that isn’t the case in the future.

Okay, I can’t picture our home ever growing to the size of a major city, but then I doubt that many Magi from even a hundred or thousand years ago could imagine what our world would be like now.  That’s a topic for another day, since what Magi through the ages have chosen to write about – or not – affects what we know of them in our present or my future; for whenever you’re reading this.  That thought has me picturing a future Magi reading about some cultural idiosyncrasy from my time that makes no sense at all without context.  Even something like game night at the Inn might not make any sense if none of the games we play now.  Just in case, I’ll mention that our games are all family-friendly; with nothing more dangerous than throwing darts at a dart board.

Note to me – ask Ethan whether the Magi of the Roman Empire wrote about their ‘games’ as being family friendly!

I must be tired to have my mind wandering around like that, so I’ll wrap this up and get some sleep now.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - September 5, 2018

Ethan:

It’s my turn for a short update.  Day Two of Grade Two was good; Ehlana and I started our after school lab and archives play time today; and we had a quiet evening at home from dinnertime until now while studying, having a Magi lesson, and spending a bit of time with Mom and Dad before coming up to bed.

Now I’m tired and ready to get some sleep; so that’s it for today.

Ethan – out!

Ehlana:

I really loved getting back in the lab today after we were finished school for the day.  It always feels as though I’ve missed a lot while away – even over a holiday weekend when only the minimum work gets done anyway.  The good news for that, though, is that there is always fun things for me to work on because new plants are ready to harvest and test; so that speeds up the part of the work I like to do best.

The lab time was great; and so was spending the evening with Mom and Dad – though we did work or study for most of that time together.  The Magi lessons are always great though, and the studying was a continuation of our doctoral-level research; so that was good too.

I don’t feel Ethan’s need for a short report tonight, but I also don’t really have anything else to cover for today; so I’ll wrap this up and head off to sleep now too.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - September 4, 2018

Ethan:

My first day in Grade Two started great – or at least I thought so at the time while Naomi was hugging me in thanks for my reaction to seeing her this morning.  She is beautiful, her Mom is a hair stylist, and she had a great back-to-school outfit; so I don’t see the problem with my reaction – or with enjoying being enthusiastically hugged by a sophisticated Grade Three girl.

The guys didn’t see it that way; and I’ve been razzed about it all day.

Other than that, our first day of Grade Two was fun – even though Miles thinks that it was awful having his Mom for our teacher this year.  That’s his own fault, since Mrs. Sheldon would have switched classes for the year if he hadn’t wanted her to teach him, but since his big sister didn’t ask her to do that; he couldn’t take the hit to his reputation and even tacitly admit that he’s afraid of having his mother as his teacher.  Let’s not delve into the lack of logic for that, since she’s been teaching him since before he was born, and even if he admitted that; it wouldn’t keep him from making jokes about the ‘situation’ he’s in this year.  Ehlana and I are glad that Mrs. Sheldon is teaching us, though; and we really like her a lot.  Miles, on the other hand is both going to be in for the worst school year of his life and be able to do whatever he wants because there’s no way his mother would flunk him and have to teach him for a second year if she held him back.

It’s a good thing that Miles has his future career as an extreme sports athlete to fall back on; since the only other career option that might work with thought processes like that would be if he went into politics.

I so did not need that mental picture of President Miles Sheldon! ;^)

Then again; maybe a half-pipe in the oval office and watching the secret service trying to keep up with Miles while doing Parkour through the streets of Washington might make for a fun improvement to national politics!

It’s a school night, but while we didn’t have any homework tonight, Mom is starting to get us back into our school routine.  We didn’t go to the lab after school because we were required by kid law to hang out with our friends and talk about our first day of school.  Mom did a Magi lesson with us tonight; we did some studying for our ‘real’ education – my doctoral studies in Information Science and Technology – aka advanced-level librarian – for me and Biochemistry for Ehlana.

Yes, Grade Two classes are a bit of a let-down by comparison, but we do get to play with kids our own age; so that’s a lot more fun than hanging out with a bunch of college freshman teens.

Anyway, we studied; were sent up to bed a little while ago; I’ve done some archive reading since then; and now it’s time to get some sleep so that we can do it all over again tomorrow.  Summer holiday fun is done for another year, but we have a lot to look forward to this fall; so I’m happy and ready to enjoy the adventures – even when that includes a lot of ‘learning’ that Ehlana and I covered back before we could walk.  Stay tuned; there is sure to be more fun to come as we get settled into the new school year.

Ethan – out!

Ehlana:

As usual, Ethan’s ahead of my for the daily journal update.  He also seems to have covered the news of the day well-enough; so I’ll just add that I thought that his hugging moment with Naomi this morning was adorable.  That doesn’t help his reputation with the guys – yet; but it won’t really be all that many years until half of them will wish that they were as lucky as Ethan, and I’ve no doubt about that; since Naomi picked him pretty much since the first time we met; and every girl around our age in this town knows that – and likely won’t ever mess with Naomi whether they know she’s a Magi or not.

That’s it for me.  As Ethan’s already mentioned, we’ve had a good day; I’m happy; and now it’s time to get some sleep.
