Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - January 13, 2019

Ethan:

We’ve had a good day, but spending much time with Cassie didn’t end up being part of the fun for me.  The girls got most of her attention this morning during breakfast and while getting ready for church; I was with Aiden for the first part of the service and then with our friends at Sunday school; and our lunch break was too-short for much more than a chat about last night, this morning, and plans for the rest of the day.  Cassie and May both worked on packing for their trip back to school after lunch; Cassie worked the buffets at the Inn and will be there until close; and I’m in bed because we’re playing normal kids on a school night.

Cassie, Michael, and May head back to college in the morning, so we’ll get to see them for a little while before we head to school, but we’re out of time; and I can’t help but wish for more – even when we didn’t get to see them a lot during the last school week; and that’d be the same if they were home.  It doesn’t have to make sense; it’s just a human, emotional fact.  I’m going to miss my big sister, and while I might have to play it cool around my friends; I can admit it here in my journal.

I don’t want to even think about that anymore, so that’s all for tonight; and I’m going to just get some sleep now and not think at all.

What a great plan, Ethan!

I’ll take the night off from our journal; and maybe write about how I’m feeling tomorrow night instead.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - January 12, 2019

Ethan:

We got to play with Cassie and May a lot today, but it’s another girls’ night here at our house tonight; so Dad, Aiden, and I are spending the evening in the living room while Ehlana’s room and the lounge have been taken over by that gang of girls.  I’m pretty much starting at the end, though, so let’s back up and take it from the top.

Grandma and Grandpa are still on their way to Europe – and currently on their overnight Trans-Atlantic flight.  Jacob and Miranda are already at their first Caribbean island destination; and are definitely warmer than we are tonight – though I’m definitely too-young to even think about how much hotter their first night there is compared to what we’re doing here! ;^)

Cassie and Michael were up early this morning and got to see both couples off on their way to the airport, but then they had breakfast with Rebecca and Lucas before coming over here.  While we had some morning chores; we got to play most of the day – or most of us did.  Michael has helped out at the Inn a lot today while his parents are away to help Jake and Stephanie; since they’ll be running the place for the next two weeks.  Our friends and family play time today, with a lot of that happening outdoors was great; we had a gang here for pizzeria pizza and sides dinner; and then the segregation began soon-after the guys were put in charge of the clean-up while the girls went upstairs to play and watch chick flicks.  Dad helped us out with one snack raid foray to the third floor, and that was fun, but then we were chased off with threats of hugs, kisses, and girl germs; so we went along with that ‘threat’ and have stayed in the living room since then – until it was time to head up to my room and bed for Aiden and me.

Aiden has already fallen asleep, but some of the girls are still having fun in the lounge.  This has been an awesome day, but I don’t want to stay up any longer either – especially since we’re going to have a crazy morning with this many girls getting ready for church in the morning.  We only have one more full day left with Cassie, Michael, and May before they head home, so while I don’t know whether we’ll actually get to spend much time with them; I’ll still be rested up and ready for one more chance to make some fun memories with them before they head back to school on Monday.

Safe travels, Grandma and Grandpa – and Miranda and Jacob!

By Monday, I’ll wish that I was on vacation too, but I’ve loved spending a lot of the day with Cassie; and the girls’ night sleepover has been really awesome too!  Ethan’s done a pretty good job with the rest of the report for today, but I do have a few additions.

Our sleepover guests include Naomi, Sophia, Brianna, Faith, Leah, and Hailey.  The chick flick movies were little kid rated, and animated for the first one, but girls of all ages love those movies too; and the mini-makeovers were awesome too.  There was lots of girl chat time; some game-playing; and music fun; and now there is still a movie playing in the lounge while the younger kids – and Cassie and May – have headed for their beds.  I’m writing this update now before going back into the lounge, but don’t expect to stay awake much longer either.  It’s been a long day; and I’m tired.

I’m also really happy – and sad that we’re almost out of time to spend with Cassie and the rest of our favorite collegians.  We do still have one more day, so I’ll try not to turn that into a country song and just be grateful for, well, everything.  I do still want to be rested and ready for that last day; so that’s all I have for tonight; I’ll get back to that movie; and probably fall asleep before it’s over.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - January 11, 2019

Ethan:

We’re having a best friends’ sleepover tonight, so we’re having fun, but we’ve also missed out on spending much time with Cassie while she’s been busy doing other things; so another day has gone by without the extra play time with our big sister or Michael.  They’re also at his house for the night so that they can hang out with his parents before they – Miranda and Jacob – head for the Caribbean and the two weeks of sun and fun they plan on having while there without work or kids to worry about.

Okay, Miranda is going to technically do a bit of work for the family business, but that is just an added bonus that pays for the trip and won’t take up much of her time.  We aren’t doing any family activities tonight because Grandma and Grandpa are getting ready to leave for Europe tomorrow too; we already had our dinner with them here; and they also did a lunch at the Inn with the pre-school cousins and most of the parents, Cassie, Michael, and May too.  May’s here tonight too, but chose having a quiet night while Cassie and Michael are busy; and she’s likely ready for some time for herself anyway.

We’re getting ready for a movie night in the lounge now that Cassie and Michael have moved on from the bit of time they have spent with us today – during dinner and the clean-up; so I guess that’s all for tonight – though I’ll add any news that might come up during the rest of our night with the next report if needed.

I’ll skip commenting on hopes for more time with Cassie and Michael for the rest of the weekend; and just enjoy the weekend whatever happens.

Ehlana:

Ethan covered the lunch at the Inn news that we missed out on while at school, but I’ll add that Cassie spent her morning playing with those pre-school cousins; and the afternoon visiting with friends that will be heading back to college this weekend too – and that they won’t likely see again until their summer holidays.  We had fun with dinner – even if that wasn’t much time; and we’ll have fun with the best friends’ sleepover tonight.  I’m sure that Ethan just forgot to mention that cuddling with Naomi will be part of the fun for him, and while May will be welcome to join us; he’s likely right; and she’s ready for a break.

Fortunately, my Jacuzzi is available; and an entertainment option for her!

We are getting started on that movie night soon, though, and I’m multi-tasking this report because there is a chance that we’ll end up napping in the lounge.  We haven’t been able to play much with Cassie, Michael, and May, but we have had fun – including after-school play time with our friends; so I wouldn’t even be surprised if one or more of us have naps during the movies.

I’ll let you know how that goes for us; that’s all for now; and I’m out of here and back to playing in the real world for the rest of the night.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - Jamuary 10, 2019

Ethan:

We’ve had a normal school day; a work session at the lab; dinner at home; and then game night at the Inn to keep busy with today.  Other than at game night; we didn’t get to spend much time with Cassie, Michael, and May; since they were busy all day with pre-schooler play time and meals and visits with Jake, Stephanie, Violet, Dillon, Christina, and Josiah.  I’m glad that they’ve had another good day, but we’re also one day closer to them heading back to college; and we’re running out of time with them.

So is everyone else, and we need to share; but still wish that we had more time.

Those thoughts have kept me awake for a while since getting home from the Inn and coming up to bed; so I’ve been doing archive reading while waiting to be ready to sleep.  I’m there now; so that’s all for tonight.  Let’s hope that the next few updates will include more news about actually hanging out with our favorite teens before they leave again.

Ehlana:

I’m tired too – and have stayed up too late; so I’ll only add that Cassie and Michael won their very first game night playing in the ‘senior’ division now that they’re adults.  That’s a fun fact for the game night history books, but spending that time with them – even when we were sharing them with a room full of family and friends was what was best about our play evening out.

Ethan may hope for more time with Cassie – as I do, but his hopes for tomorrow are a bit unlikely; since Cassie and Michael are also going to want to spend time with his parents before they head out on their winter vacation getaway.  Grandma and Grandpa will be leaving this weekend too; so I don’t expect that any of us will have much of a chance for hanging out together without major time sharing with everyone else.

We will let you know how that goes, but it’s time for me to crash and sleep now too; so I’ll get to that next; and be ready for whatever our last day of the school week brings.
