Ethan and Ehlana:
Happy 23rd Birthday, Lucas
Norton!
We didn’t have any personal involvement in
Lucas’ special day, and Rebecca took the day off from the Pizzeria; so we weren’t
even in on the gift delivery from Cassie, Michael, Rowen, and Tim. Our day hasn’t been birthday-party great, but
it has been pretty good; so let’s get to that news – starting with the rest of
the story from yesterday afternoon.
The biking and swimming with our friends
was a lot of fun, and we should mention that we’re grateful for the extended
season for swimming in the river thanks to the ongoing hotter weather! Dinner with Aiden’s family was a highlight of
our day; we had Hailey and Leah for our band practice audience – though they
took care of Silkie too while we were having our music fun. Leah stayed with Hailey last night, so we all
headed back to Aiden’s house after that practice; we watched a movie together;
and the co-ed sofa sleepover for the two couples was accidentally-on-purpose.
Tai Chi by the river this morning was a fun
start to our day; we had bakery treats for breakfast; and then our school day
was uneventful. We’re getting a bit of
rain tonight, but it was still nice for most of the day with just a couple of
rounds of showers this afternoon. That
isn’t why we played at the lab after school – we just needed to get some work
done after taking a couple of days off.
We did stop in at home for a quick
after-school visit with Mom, but she apparently didn’t do anything while in the
city; so her side of that chat was really short – and we’re okay with that lack
of news! Our lab or archives time was
fun; we had a quiet dinner with Mom; and then Naomi and Aiden came over for our
band practice and a Magi lesson. By
then, we were getting more rain, so we didn’t take Silkie along when we walked
our friends to their homes; and then we just wrapped up our day with bath or
Jacuzzi time and the usual bedtime twin chat and computing.
That’s all we have for here at home, but
before we move on to nap time; we want to comment on some of the world
news. First up for today is the
escalation happening in Ukraine – on both sides. They aren’t negotiating anything seriously;
and we are having a tough time hoping for better from all leaders involved;
since they obviously care more about their own power and wealth than about the
people stuck in the middle of the fighting.
Ukraine has the attention of the world, but it is far from the only
place where fighting is happening or at-risk of breaking out, and when you boil
it all down; the conflicts are all about natural resources.
Finally, we’d risk hurting feelings if we
commented on Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in any negative way, but since nobody
will care by the time any future Magi read this; so let’s mention the ‘most-watched-ever’
funeral. We don’t have any idea how much
was spent on the week-long mourning and the funeral, and we won’t suggest that
there wasn’t genuine mourners around the world, but the pageantry was still a
choice; and we have a problem with the hubris and narcissism required to put on
a show like that while average people can’t afford basic needs during an
economic crisis. We’re not picking on
the royal family exclusively for this, since this is really just something that
most of the powerful egomaniacs of the world seem to aspire to achieve – we’re
suggesting that it is wrong to waste so much money and resources; and extremely
hypocritical to live that way why insisting that everyone else needs to
sacrifice for the greater good.
Okay, that’s enough of a rant, and we’re
ready to crash and nap now; so we’re out of here.
Until next time, live with love, fellow
Magi of the Light!
