Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - September 25, 2022

Ethan and Ehlana:

Happy 18th Anniversary, Nathan and Hannah Draper!

We’ll be heading to the Inn for their anniversary buffet dinner soon; so this is going to be a quick update; and we’ll save the rest of the news for our next report.

Tai Chi by the river was chilly again, but we had fun with that – and with our breakfast that included a vid-chat with Cassie and Michael.  Church and Sunday school included some extra fun thanks to the top anniversary of the day – especially for Ehlana because she sat with Aiden and his family during the first part of the service before we all headed for Sunday school.  Lunch was at home with Mom and Dad; and then we went to the lab for the afternoon while Aiden was busy with a family event for his parents’ special day; and we’ve just finished getting ready for both the dinner and our evening plans that include a sleepover for Naomi and Aiden while Aiden’s parents get a kid-free night.

As we’ve written already, the rest of the news for today can wait for the next report, and we really do need to go soon; so that’s all for this update!

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - September 24, 2022

Ethan and Ehlana:

We had a lot of fun with Naomi and her family last night, and while Zack and Eli were there too; they didn’t take their pranks and jokes too-far.  Yes, Aiden and I had to distract them with video games for hours, but we still got to have some co-ed cuddle time while watching a movie after a parental order put an end to the too-loud gaming; Zack and Eli moved on to Eli’s room instead of being ‘grossed out’ by us; and we eventually crashed and napped for the rest of the night – not accidentally in the family room instead of bedrooms! ;^)

Our Saturday has not included a lot of fun, but we were outside for a chilly Tai Chi workout; breakfast was pancakes and bacon to get us ready for a work day; and then we definitely had a fall chores day.  Our parents let us work together on what ended up being six yards, so that was better than working alone.  The weather warmed to the mid-eighties, so that helped a lot too; and the fun that we did have happened at lunch and during a couple of chilly cool-down swims.  The work details aren’t interesting, but we can mention that Dad’s lawn tractor and attachments came in very handy and traveled some miles today while doing laps at all six of those yards.  Yes, I was driving it some of the time, but we took turns doing the easier work along with the tougher jobs; and we’re all very tired tonight.  We finished up everything on our collective to-do lists by six-thirty; headed for our own homes instead of doing another major group meal; and we aren’t doing any sleepovers tonight because we were all ready to just eat, get cleaned up, and crash for the night.

That’s exactly what we’ve done here at home – though Ehlana and I took care of the post-dinner clean-up before bath or Jacuzzi time.  Other tweens might think that it’s crazy for us to be ready to nap so early on a Saturday night, but we’re there and really need to re-charge; so we will!

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - September 23, 2022

Ethan and Ehlana:

We’ve had a rainy, cool day, so Tai Chi was indoors this morning; we stayed in for most of the school day; and just finished our band practice with Naomi and Aiden.  They’ve gone on ahead of us while we’re packing overnight bags for a sleepover at Naomi’s house; and we’ll pretend that we’re doing that to give Mom and Dad a kid-free night after Dad gets home from the city.  We’re not having any family meals today; and we’re not going to the football game tonight – whether it is still raining by game time or not.  Staying dry, warm, and indoors tonight works for us, and we’re ready to head out soon; so that’s all for this report.

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - September 22, 2022

Ethan and Ehlana:

Fall seems to have arrived overnight, but we’ll still have some hotter days this weekend; so the nice weather will continue for a while longer – and we’ll try to enjoy every bonus outdoor opportunity we’ll get for as long as we can!

For today, the weather didn’t really matter a lot; since we were indoors for most of the day.  Tai Chi was by the river, since the rain didn’t get here until the afternoon; our school day was quiet and fun; and then we had our band practice after school because of game night at the Inn; and then Naomi and Aiden stayed for that meal before we all headed to the Inn.  Mom and Miranda won the senior team title; Naomi and I won the junior title; and we all had fun with our families and friends.  Mom did a short Magi lesson with Ehlana and me after we got home; and now we’re ready for bed and doing our bedtime computing and twin chat because she didn’t want us doing work tonight too.

That’s also all we have for tonight, and we’re ready to rest up for our last school day of the week and the weekend; so we’re out of here and will be sleeping soon.

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - September 21, 2022

Ethan and Ehlana:

Happy 23rd Birthday, Lucas Norton!

We didn’t have any personal involvement in Lucas’ special day, and Rebecca took the day off from the Pizzeria; so we weren’t even in on the gift delivery from Cassie, Michael, Rowen, and Tim.  Our day hasn’t been birthday-party great, but it has been pretty good; so let’s get to that news – starting with the rest of the story from yesterday afternoon.

The biking and swimming with our friends was a lot of fun, and we should mention that we’re grateful for the extended season for swimming in the river thanks to the ongoing hotter weather!  Dinner with Aiden’s family was a highlight of our day; we had Hailey and Leah for our band practice audience – though they took care of Silkie too while we were having our music fun.  Leah stayed with Hailey last night, so we all headed back to Aiden’s house after that practice; we watched a movie together; and the co-ed sofa sleepover for the two couples was accidentally-on-purpose.

Tai Chi by the river this morning was a fun start to our day; we had bakery treats for breakfast; and then our school day was uneventful.  We’re getting a bit of rain tonight, but it was still nice for most of the day with just a couple of rounds of showers this afternoon.  That isn’t why we played at the lab after school – we just needed to get some work done after taking a couple of days off.

We did stop in at home for a quick after-school visit with Mom, but she apparently didn’t do anything while in the city; so her side of that chat was really short – and we’re okay with that lack of news!  Our lab or archives time was fun; we had a quiet dinner with Mom; and then Naomi and Aiden came over for our band practice and a Magi lesson.  By then, we were getting more rain, so we didn’t take Silkie along when we walked our friends to their homes; and then we just wrapped up our day with bath or Jacuzzi time and the usual bedtime twin chat and computing.

That’s all we have for here at home, but before we move on to nap time; we want to comment on some of the world news.  First up for today is the escalation happening in Ukraine – on both sides.  They aren’t negotiating anything seriously; and we are having a tough time hoping for better from all leaders involved; since they obviously care more about their own power and wealth than about the people stuck in the middle of the fighting.  Ukraine has the attention of the world, but it is far from the only place where fighting is happening or at-risk of breaking out, and when you boil it all down; the conflicts are all about natural resources.

Finally, we’d risk hurting feelings if we commented on Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in any negative way, but since nobody will care by the time any future Magi read this; so let’s mention the ‘most-watched-ever’ funeral.  We don’t have any idea how much was spent on the week-long mourning and the funeral, and we won’t suggest that there wasn’t genuine mourners around the world, but the pageantry was still a choice; and we have a problem with the hubris and narcissism required to put on a show like that while average people can’t afford basic needs during an economic crisis.  We’re not picking on the royal family exclusively for this, since this is really just something that most of the powerful egomaniacs of the world seem to aspire to achieve – we’re suggesting that it is wrong to waste so much money and resources; and extremely hypocritical to live that way why insisting that everyone else needs to sacrifice for the greater good.

Okay, that’s enough of a rant, and we’re ready to crash and nap now; so we’re out of here.

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!
