Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - January 26, 2025

Ethan and Ehlana:

We’ve wrapped up our weekend with a fairly-quiet day.  Tai Chi and breakfast with Mom and Dad made for a happy start to our adventures – including a vid-chat with Cassie and Michael during breakfast.  Ehlana and I are a bit jealous because they are having a lot of fun along with the work and minor drama issues, but we will get our turns eventually – even if that won’t be in a travel-the-world kind of way for our future careers.

The church service and Sunday school were really good too; we had a quiet lunch back at home without extra guests; and then Ehlana and I played at the lab or archives all afternoon while Dad got his weekend work done and Mom possibly helped him – if the smiles were any indication!  Details are not wanted or needed, but time phasing might have been involved; and Dad actually did have all of his work finished by dinnertime.  He also helped Mom with making the meal; we were home on-time; and we’ve all enjoyed the food and a quiet evening together that is wrapping up early because Mom ordered us to take a break.

That works for us, so bath or Jacuzzi time was comparatively-early; Ehlana and I had a short music practice that was mostly for fun; and we’re keeping our bedtime computing to the minimum that is mostly to be ready for the usual Monday morning teen chat and weekend recap that is life for teens at school.  While it is tempting to skip any world or political news again; we need to include regular context to what is normal in our world for our journals; so let’s cover a few stories.

We will watch and see what actually happens with Israel and the Palestinians, but growing talk about moving all of the Palestinians out of Gaza and probably the West Bank too is disturbing; and history will not look kindly on the rest of the world if we collectively stand by or support destroying the Palestinians – whether that’s through outright genocide or through decades of mistreatment.  There isn’t much news from the conflict in Ukraine – at least in the western media, but that is likely bad news for Ukraine – despite all of the money and weapons thrown their way over the past couple of months.  We’re coming up on three years for this war; and it doesn’t seem as though a serious end in sight – despite political claims or promises.  Maybe that will change if true diplomacy happens, but from what we’ve observed so far; President Trump’s idea of negotiating is for everyone to do as he orders voluntarily or be economically or militarily forced to do it.  He’s having success with that from weak countries; and could end up with serious problems if the other ‘power’ countries refuse his demands.

Closer to home and on the political front, the battles continue for confirming the new presidential appointments, but that is mostly theatre.  Deporting illegal immigrants has begun with convicts from prisons and other criminals being rounded up around the country.  We’ll see how that goes in the coming weeks and months; since President Trump’s goal to depart millions of illegal immigrants might prove to be near-impossible – not to mention the cost of all of that work to round everyone up and then transport them to countries of origin.  We’d love to see an end to the cartels and crime in general, but bad guys have been around for a very long time, so even if our government manages to take down a few cartels; those power vacuums will be filled eventually – and probably not with gangs of good guys.

Okay, that’s enough for tonight.  We’re ready to get back to normal as we start new modules and school and return to our regular schedule.  Getting some extra sleep tonight will help with that, so we’ll get started on that now while you move on to reading on about our near-future and your past; so have fun with that while we hopefully enjoy some happy dreams.

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!
