Ehlana's and Ethan's Journals - June 9, 2024

Ehlana and Ethan:

We’ve had an awesome weekend whether playing or working; so let’s get to that promised extended update!

On Friday, we had a blast with our friends and some cousins while we played and biked at the park, and while the fun continued into dinnertime; the parents chose to have that meal indoors due to the risk of rain and thunderstorms – and they were right; since the rain started before we finished that meal.  Our evening play time was indoors most of the time too.  Ethan and I hosted friends and cousins on the third floor; the boys took over the lounge for some video gaming for the first couple of hours; and then it was movie time through to when most of our guests headed home with their parents and then beyond for the six of us that stayed for the co-ed sofa sleepover.  That was a great way to wrap up our exams week and we stayed up a bit too late, but we did eventually get around to some nap time; and helping out with fatigue healing in the morning was an option too.

Saturday morning chores were required after Tai Chi and breakfast, but we took turns with at least making cameo visits to support some of our favorite ball players.  Naomi and Aiden worked together with us and we had chores at three homes; so we were running around for quite a bit of the day.  We took picnic lunches along for some baseball watching when we took that break; and we can report that ‘our’ teams won today.  It might be news to report that Zack and Eli’s team earned a win, but Sebastian and Caleb are also on the same team this year; and that probably made the difference because Zack needs to prove that he’s better than our younger cousins; and Sebastian and Caleb each have talent and like to win more than Zack and Eli like to entertain instead of play to win.

Let’s take a quick moment here to mention some of the team names this season.  Zack’s team is the Med Center Mavericks.  Brianna has moved up to the nine-to-eleven division this year, so she gets to play with Leah and Hailey; and their team is the Med Center Mystics.  Naomi, Sophia, and I are on the Witch Falls (Gas) Witches’ team; and Ethan and Aiden play for the Bakery Blaze.  Faith is still in the six-to-eight division for another year and feels a bit left behind with Brianna ahead of her, but she still gets to play with some of her same-grade friends; and Taylor’s Twist should still be one of the top teams even without our most-hyperactive cousin!  Finally for this round, our favorite adult co-ed team is the BMR Lab Lynx, and while we’re supporting some of our favorite next-gen parents; that feels different from when we supported our parents in previous seasons.  We still prefer having Mom and Dad coach our teams; and we’re repeating history too while helping out with the next-gen kids – just as Cassie and Michael did when our age and helping with us and our younger cousins.

Moving along, we had another family barbeque dinner ahead of that Saturday evening co-ed game, and while we’d already been booked for the babysitting; we ended up going with a camping night for many of our cousins and a small gang of friends.  Tents and gear got set up by the time we headed to the park for the game; Ethan and I ended up playing with the younger kids more than we watched the Lynx win their game; and then we helped to get all of the kids back to our house.  We had parental help getting a campfire started; and then we had some older teen support while the adults were at Sheldon’s Pub for a few hours.  We helped with taking care of the kids and offered music entertainment; the youngest kids were tucked into sleeping bags by eleven o’clock; and the campfire was put out at midnight.  All of the kids were sleeping before the parents got home, and while a few of the youngest kids were picked up; most ended up staying with us – which is why we didn’t have any co-ed camping while sharing tents with toddlers.

We eventually had another round of nap time for the babysitters; and then we were very busy this morning.  Tai Chi was great with the extra exercise buddies and some spectators, and then it got crazy-busy while we got everyone fed and ready for church.  Some of the camp was packed up before we went to church too; and then we moved on to the service and a Sunday school adventure that included helping out with getting everything ready for the teen-led holiday service that will hopefully be at the park if the weather cooperates.  We worked on the rest of the camp clean-up after getting home; lunch was an easy-meal with cold salads, snacks, and mini-subs for everyone still around the house; and then Mom and Dad set us free to play with friends and cousins for the afternoon.  That worked for us, and we split our time between biking and playing at the park and some canoeing on the river.  There were a couple of short swims too, but the high today was a bit cooler; so we didn’t go with any long swims.

For the record, eighty-one for the high is still awesome; and we’ll likely wish for that by later this coming week when the highs are forecast to hit triple-digits.

After playing for most of the afternoon, Mom and Dad took us to the Inn for the late buffet; Naomi and Aiden were our dates; and we ended up having that meal with Sophia and Aaron with Brianna and Faith rounding out our table of eight.  That worked for us; we loved the food and chat time; and then we came home and did some work and a Magi lesson in the office.  Thanks to a time phase, we got a lot done without staying up all night; bath or Jacuzzi time followed; and now we’re winding down fast toward getting some sleep.  We haven’t done much sleeping this weekend; so that’s all we have for this report.  As always, our final week of school is all about cleaning up and having fun before the summer break; so we’ll enjoy every moment as we begin the transition to a summer that will be very busy and different for reasons ranging from more ‘real’ work to changes like our grandparents’ move to their new home and having some favorite families getting the first cottages that will be finished in time for the holiday weekend and ready for summer vacations and beyond!

Ethan and I really need to get some sleep now; so that’s all for tonight.  We definitely want to be at full power for all of the fun ahead of us this week!

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!
