Ethan and Ehlana:
Happy 28th Birthday, Caleb Palmer!
Cassie and Michael have missed another cousins’ celebration for the Bassett clan, but we did hear through them that Caleb has had a good day; and Erica didn’t have any pregnancy issues – possibly because she’s three months along now; and may be past her bouts of morning sickness. That, by the way, doesn’t feel weird to us anymore; since Caleb and Erica have waited to start their family for longer than many of the other young couples around here.
As for our day, the shocking news we have for you is that we aren’t doing any kind of a sleepover tonight! Sophia and Aaron are busy tonight with some family babysitting and that birthday dinner; and we decided to surprise our parents by having Naomi and Aiden actually hang out with their own families tonight! While we had fun with that, we also had a good day at school; went biking with our friends after being set free for the weekend; and then we came home for dinner and a quiet night with Mom and Dad. They didn’t set up a family-and-friends’ night either; since we’re all going to be very busy next weekend with the Easter holiday. We had a burgers and sides dinner that Dad did with help from his trainee, but I am going to pretend that I have not mastered the techniques anytime soon because that’s just expected of the teens around here – just as Dad still has to defer to grandpa for expert advice whether needed or not. We enjoyed that food break; opted for doing some chores and working in the office tonight; and now Ehlana and I are winding down toward bedtime with our computer checks and twin chat. Before we get to that, we should add that we had fun for the rest of yesterday. The biking and park play with our friends was great; we kept Naomi and Aiden for dinner with Mom and Dad; and then we all went to the Inn for game night. We didn’t win any titles for our families, but had a blast; and then we came home and eventually ended up doing some work in the office and a Magi lesson before going to bed late. Yes, we’d planned on taking the night off from work; and then that didn’t happen for us.
That brings us to another world and political news update. The top story for today was another tariff response from China that took their tariffs against our country to one-hundred and twenty-five percent. They also made it clear than anything more from either side was just pointless and would take the fight to laughable levels when they were already beyond numbers that will be acceptable for any trade in either direction where prices were more than doubled now and unprofitable for any company or consumer. Our leaders shouldn’t deduce that China can’t do anything else because they can – including restricting exports to us at any price for products or raw materials that we really do need. There are more-serious risks, but let’s not get into those; since we definitely do not want to be doom-and-gloomy tonight. There were meetings between our envoy and Russian officials today, but that continues to be talk without serious action; and nothing changes for the better in and around Ukraine. The same is true for the Middle East conflicts; and we don’t expect that to change over the weekend – whether there ends up being talks of any kind between our country and Iran directly or through intermediaries. There aren’t even talks happening in Syria or Yemen – both countries continue to be destroyed and their people killed while the rest of the world watches silently and does nothing – or facilitates the death and destruction.
That’s enough for tonight. We’re going to have extra chores tomorrow ahead of the holiday weekend, but we also have a bike ride planned with our friends to take the trail up to Quarry Lake and take a picnic lunch with us too; so we want to be rested up and ready for all of that and need to get started on that nap time. We’ve had a good day even without getting to end it with co-ed cuddle buddies. No, Ehlana, Silkie can stay with you tonight – even if you would definitely have more fun teasing me tomorrow about me having a girl in my bed that wasn’t Naomi to cuddle with instead!
Moving along, what you won’t hear as you finish reading this in our future is the sound of me escaping Ehlana’s room – without Silkie; and right now!
Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!
