Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - May 11, 2025

Ethan and Ehlana:

Happy Mother’s Day to all of our favorite Moms!

Happy 1st Anniversary, Jimmy and Emma Sheldon!

Ehlana and Aiden ‘won’ the Mother’s Day breakfast with both sets of parents while I helped Naomi with making the day special for her Mom – starting with a special breakfast and gifts that we had for her.  Eli came over for breakfast too while Zack and Brianna were busy with their parents; and then we all eventually met up for the walk to church.  We always have fun with the stories, but none of us are sure whether the Moms or Dads get the better deal between flowers on Mother’s Day and a short sermon gift for the fathers in June!  We did have fun at church and Sunday school; we helped the younger kids with crafts for them to give to their mothers after the service; and then we headed home to get changed; help out with some work; and then meet up at the Carrington’s for a special lunch barbeque that the Moms did not have to help with at all.

That meal was great; we followed it up with a canoe ride for a small gang of parents, teens, and kids; and we paddled upriver for an hour and change; paddled back home again in a bit less than an hour; and then quite a few of us went for a chilly cool down swim that we enjoyed for longer than predicted because the cooler water felt good in contrast with the afternoon high that topped eighty by a couple of degrees.  We had time after that to dry off and play in the back yard before needing to get cleaned up for the late buffet at the Inn; and then that culinary adventure was a definite highlight of the day – even while we helped out with next-gen kid-control that added in a different kind of fun while we got the toddlers fed so their mothers didn’t have to do that instead!  Ehlana and I came home with Mom and Dad after that, we did some work and a Magi lesson in the office; and used a time phase so that we weren’t up most of the night catching up on work that we didn’t do over the past week while away.

Now we’re ready to get some sleep after bath or Jacuzzi time and it is still getting late; so we need to move this along.  I am not going to offer details of my night with Naomi – though we had fun playing a board game and then watching a movie with her parents before getting around to the best parts of our co-ed sleepover!  Ehlana assures me that she didn’t have as much fun with Aiden, but we both know that isn’t really true – even if their adventures last night were a bit different from mine.  They also hadn’t spent more than five days apart; so maybe that fun level should be recalibrated to include all of the alone time they had in Washington!

I’m obviously getting tired to even go there; so let’s keep the news report short and then we’ll get some sleep.  The ceasefire between India and Pakistan may be holding after some early issues, but we will wait to see what happens; since the issues between them are more-serious than they were after the original terrorist attack on India and will be challenging to resolve.  It continues to be all talk and little action for the Middle East battles and the horrors still being inflicted there, and while both sides are making offers to keep peace talks going over Ukraine; the actions on the ground seem to be leading to escalations in the fighting as the western countries scramble to send more weapons and air defense systems and pile on more sanctions against Russia because what has failed them for the past three years and more will definitely work now if they just keep doing more of it!  News flash, Mr. President – this is now going to be your war too; since you truly are doing exactly the same thing that President Biden was doing before you!  So much for your campaign platform of peace!

There was the ‘big’ story of a trade deal over tariffs between our country and the United Kingdom, and that might sound great but meant nothing in the real world when our country already has a trade surplus and the tariffs were pointless to start with – not to mention that this piece of our national international trade ‘pie’ is just a comparatively-tiny slice!  Yes, it might be a ‘win’ for our politicians, but also meaningless.

Finally, Cassie and Michael are on their way home after a visit with their friends in Washington after we left, but they’ll spend the next two weeks working their way here with other visits with friends along the way.  We hope they have fun; and will be happy to have them home again once they get here in time for the holiday weekend!  That is it for this update, though, and we are ready to crash and nap; so we’re out of here!

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!
