Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - June 26, 2018

Ethan:
Ehlana and I worked in the lab or archive this morning; we’ve played with our friends this afternoon; and now we’re about to head out for our first camping adventure of the summer with our friends – me with the guys at Aiden’s house; and Ehlana with the girls at Caroline Carter’s house.

That’ll be the best part of our day, but I’m not going to be able to do any work or studying on my computer or iPad; so I’ll leave them behind and just take my Switch with me so that we’ll be able to play video games once we’re in our tents for the night.

I have to finish packing and then get my gear to Aiden’s; so that’s it for this report.

Ehlana:
This was a quiet work morning at the lab – one of those days where you don’t really get to do anything exciting while in-between the experiments and other, more-interesting work.  That’s part of the job, though; and all of the work we’re doing is going to pay off – even if that’s eventually in ways we can’t even guess at now.

We had more fun with our play time this afternoon; and will be taking the fun level up a few notches with our first camping night of the summer at Caroline’s house – with the ‘our’ being the girls while Ethan, Aiden and the guys are camping at Aiden’s house instead.  I prefer camping with Ethan – and so does Naomi; but a girls’ camping night now and then is great too – and we can’t say the same for all of the boys that hang out with my brother and his best friend.

Ethan and I are here at home and getting ready to head over to Aiden’s or Caroline’s houses, though, and I’m writing this update now because I won’t be able to do that later with non-Magi around all night; so you’ll have to wait for the next update for the best news of the day.

I’m sure we’ll have fun tonight – and it is really awesome to get to do these camping nights this summer with minimal parental supervision – or overnight chaperones like Cassie, Michael and their friends.  I love that too, but Ethan and I are junior Magi Masters, so if we can be trusted with our talents and all of the secrets we keep; I’m pretty sure that we can handle camping in tents without getting into too much trouble!

I do need to get to that fun and adventure soon; so that’s it for tonight – this afternoon.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - June 25, 2018

Ethan:
We’ve had a pretty good day, and while we’ve had a bit of rain here and there; the wet didn’t get in the way of our outdoor fun.  I worked in the archive this morning while Ehlana was in her lab and Mom and Cassie worked around the house and in the office; we played with our friends this afternoon – including going for a canoe ride with Cassie and Michael; and then we had an easy-dinner before my ball practice.  Mom did a group Magi lesson after that with the cousins; it was bath time after they went home – and I needed it by then; and I’ve been in my bed and doing a bit of work since then.  Now I’m ready to crash and get some sleep; so that’s all I have for tonight!

Ehlana:
I had fun in the lab this morning; the canoe ride with Cassie, Michael, and our friends was the play highlight of the afternoon; and Naomi and I helped out with younger cousin control while Ethan and Aiden were busy with their ball practice after dinner.  It was younger cousins Magi lesson time after that, though Cassie helped with that tonight; I had some quality Jacuzzi time once our cousins had gone home and Cassie had gone to meet up with Michael again; and Ethan and I did our bedtime chat in his room tonight before I left him to his bedtime archive reading.  I did a bit of work too, but the work and play has me tired out; so it’s time to keep this update short and just get some sleep.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - June 24, 2018

Ethan:

It’s been a quiet day around here compared to the last couple of days.  Our Sunday morning was normal – both at home and church; Cassie worked the full shift at the Inn so we only saw her while we were there for the late buffet sitting; and Dad had to work too; so Ehlana and I had some play time with Mom, some of our cousins, and a few friends this afternoon while they were busy.

We had a short thunderstorm roll through mid-afternoon that cooled things down a bit without messing up our outdoor play time for too long; and Mom did a bedtime Magi lesson with us after we got back from the Inn – and while Dad wrapped up his homework for the night.  I’d comment on that for being a good reason for why I won’t grow up to be a lawyer too, but my job in the archives will likely be worse for me bringing my work home with me!  Case-in-point – I read in the digital library for almost an hour after my bath and the bedtime chat with Ehlana on her bed; and that would’ve kept Dad busy for days instead of an hour.  Even Mom, Cassie, and Ehlana would need a few hours to cover the same material; and I’m not pointing that out to brag – just as another observation for why being the Magi Archivist is going to be the perfect job for me.

I have a bit of time before I’ll be officially taking that job, though, and the focus on the reading does tire me out; so it’s time to wrap this up and get some sleep.

Ehlana:

I don’t really have any news from today; so let’s take a look ahead as the countdown to Cassie’s departure for college continues and we’re down to seven weeks to go until she’ll be ‘crossing over’ to that next level along with Michael, Rowen, and Tim.

We have a week and a half to go until the Fourth of July, but since it is mid-week this year; we won’t have a gang of family home for it this year.  We are still going to have a lot of fun, though, and in addition to the holiday over the next couple of weeks; we’ll have some birthday and anniversary celebrations to go along with the summer play days and the work that I want to do in my lab.  I won’t cover everything, but that’s two of seven weeks down, and when you add in the week we’ll have with our cousins in town for their annual vacation with us; that’ll cover nearly half of the time we’ll have left with Cassie before she moves into her townhouse with Rowen in August – and they’ll take possession of that townhouse – and the one that Michael and Tim are renting – on August first.

Taking that thought off-track for a moment; I’ll mention that Ethan and I really love that precedent our big sister is setting; since we have every intention of following her lead when it’s our turn – and we may just use those same two townhomes; since Ethan’s sure we can find other local friends to continue renting them between when Cassie’s done school and when we’ll start at college.

Getting back to the look ahead that isn’t quite so far out into our future; we’re not doing any vacations away this summer, but Mom, Ethan, and I may spend a couple of days in Crystal Springs the week that Dad’s there for work in July; and that’s another week of the time we have left with Cassie that’s at least partially covered of the seven.  My point seems to be that time is going to fly while we’re having fun – at a time that I wish we could drag the days out a bit more so that we could have more time with Cassie and Michael.

Maybe I should talk to them about daily time-phases to ‘make’ that extra time, but the power that would be needed to add days or weeks to our summer might be a bit too-much to ask of Mom or Cassie!

That will be a talent I plan on using when I’m old-enough to do that too; since it will come in very handy in my lab if I can do a week’s worth of research at a time in just moments.  Note to me – get Ethan to track down everything he can on the subject when that will be something we can work on; since we might want to test the limits of that ability.  We know that Magi Masters have been able to speed up or slow down time as needed; but I don’t know what the limits are.  Can time be sped up to the point where years can go by in an instant – which would appear as though everything else had stopped to the Magi in that time phase?  Can it be slowed to that same degree – which would make it look like the Magi in that type of time phase were statues to anyone looking in from the outside?  I don’t know – and have no idea how much power would be required for either.

It might be fun to try and then come out of it a year or two older than Ethan, though! ;^)

Then again, it would suck if he starts looking a lot younger than me if I did that too-often; so maybe I’ll think about that a bit longer.  I would not want to look sixty when he looks thirty or forty!

My thoughts are wandering around a lot tonight, so maybe I’d better just wrap this up and get some sleep.  We did have a good day today – if not very exciting compared to the last couple of days, and this really awesome birthday weekend; so I’m grateful for all of that – and thankful for everyone we love that helped to share all of that happy and fun with Ethan and me.  I really need to remember to tell people that more-often; since we truly are blessed here in our little town!

Ethan and I are also fairly-lucky that Mom and Cassie picked our town when they moved here, but now I’m really wandering off on another mental side-trip, so let’s wrap this up; and maybe I’ll spend some time dreaming about alternate realities for what might have been if they hadn’t – and Ethan and I had a very different life here; or an equally-odd life elsewhere.  I don’t know if I could dream of an option where we didn’t exist at all, since I wouldn’t be there to observe that alternate reality; but then that might be preferable to other, darker possibilities such as a future where Ethan and I had Hathorne for a last name!

That’d be a nightmare – not a dream; so let’s not go there; and I’ll end thus update before it gets any weirder!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - June 23, 2018

Ethan:
It almost felt as though we’ve had two days to celebrate our birthday because Mom and Dad gave Ehlana and me a chore-free day.  Tai Chi by the river with the extra exercise buddies was great; breakfast for sixteen was a blast; and then we got to play all day with six of our friends while the others had to go home and on to other things with their own families. While Mom, Dad, and Cassie did the chores around the house and yard; we played at the park; went swimming; rode our bikes on the trails; and went for a canoe ride.  We had lunch and dinner at home; went to the park in the evening for Mom and Dad’s ball game; and watched them lose to Emerson’s Exterminators in a close game that swung on a three-run homer that our team couldn’t overcome before they ran out of innings.

The ball players were heading to Sheldon’s after that game, but while babysitting services were being offered at Uncle Adam and Aunt Leanne’s, Mom and Dad didn’t want to do that tonight after a couple of too-long days; so they brought Ehlana and me home with them; Ehlana and I took baths because we needed them; and then we all went to bed.  I won’t comment on what the parents have been doing since then because I’m a kid and will pretend that I don’t know as much as I do about my parents!

That sounds like a very good reason for me to move on to doing anything else too; so that’s all for this report.

Ethan – out!

Ehlana:
We’ve had a really great play day!  The weather was awesome; we had a fun start to the day with the end to the sleepover and an awesome breakfast for sixteen after Tai Chi by the river for eight; and then Ethan and I had six friends with us for our play day while Mom, Dad, and Cassie took care of the yard and house weekend chores.  My favorite parts of the day included the biking on the trails, the canoe ride, and the swimming; while Ethan, Aiden, and the other guys might have liked the meals the best – if the amount of food they ate is any indication!

The baseball game might have been a highlight too; except that Landry’s Locusts were ‘exterminated’ by the co-ed team that the Emersons are sponsoring this season; so we could only have fun cheering our team on until that sad end for our favorite co-ed team.  Mom and Dad did not go to the after-game fun at Sheldon’s, so we didn’t end up with Brianna, Zack, and the other kids being babysat for a few hours tonight at their house.  Instead of doing that, we came home; Ethan and I hit the tubs to get cleaned up; had our bedtime chat with Mom and Dad; and have been in our beds since then.

I’ve been doing a bit of work and research, but want to catch up on my sleep while we can; so I’m about ready to go and do that once I have this update finished.  Cassie will be done work soon, but will probably go out for pizza and then hang out with Michael for a while – and won’t want Ethan or me around for that quiet time with her boyfriend; so I won’t wait up for her tonight either.  It would have been nice to play with her today too, but it is summer; she’s a teen getting ready to go away to college; and will have to work a lot – just as every other teen around here does once they’re old-enough to work.

I’m so glad that my part-time job is getting to play in my lab instead of – well, nothing; since seven-year old kids aren’t allowed to have jobs!

Having the option to go to sleep early because I’m a kid is occasionally convenient too, and tonight is one of those times when it does work for me; so that’s what I’m going to do starting right now!
