Ehlana's and Ethan's Journals - December 7, 2020

Ehlana and Ethan:

Congratulations, Brock and Karla Benton – it’s a girl!

Belinda Benton is the newest member of our little town – one of the first of many ‘pandemic babies’ – though we hope that won’t be a label that will follow them throughout their lives.  We can relate; though being known as ‘honeymoon babies’ is at least a sweeter title.  We haven’t met our newest neighbor yet, but mother and daughter are doing well; and the Benton and Cassidy families are very happy tonight.

Our day hasn’t been that exciting, but we have some news too – our band has been picked for both the school Christmas pageant and to be part of the entertainment for the seniors’ Christmas luncheon.  The school band and other teen entertainment usually takes care of that luncheon entertainment, but younger kids sometimes get invited too; and we’ve been chosen thanks to our tryout for the school show.  Compared to that news, the rest of our school day was uneventful, but we had fun – including some outdoor time because the weather was pretty good for early-December.

That’s also why we went for a bike ride after school – and before we came home for a band practice.  That was a highlight of our day; Mom followed that up with a Magi lesson for four; and then Naomi and Aiden stayed for an easy-meal dinner before heading for their homes for the rest of the night.  A co-ed sleepover was considered, but the parents had other plans – including ‘real’ studying for us in the office; and an early bedtime.  We wanted to do the work, but the ‘early’ for our bedtime is relative; since we’ve spent hours working in a time phase; so we’ve still had a very long day.

Cassie, Michael, and their friends are busy getting ready for final exams, so we don’t have anything to complain about; and a lot to be thankful for after a really good day.  We want to wrap things up on a happy note too; so our Christmas music pick for tonight is another reminder of the real reason for the season – and why there can be joy, love, and hope even in the toughest of times.
